Dear Friends,

It is so exciting and inspiring to know about what many of us are planning to do in different parts the world to make observance of World AIDS Day a more meaningful experience for us and to the communties we work with.
We at Siaap, Tamil Nadu, India are planning to conduct SALT visits and Self asessment among FSW and MSM CBOs and also among young people. We hope this process will be a great an enriching experience for the community groups and a useful learning for us. I will keep you posted with the developments.

Wishing you all the best,

With warm regards,

Prabakar

Dear Members,
Thank you for all the effort in preparation for CAD, thank you for your ideas. Here in Uganda, Health Nest Uganda Organization was among the few organizations chosen in Wakiso district to organize World AIDS Day due on 1st December 2010, the day we agreed to hold most CAD activities. We had a preparatory meeting yesterday and we agreed to target the fishing community. Health Nest Uganda was tasked with Voluntary Counselling and HIV testing which goes along with Sensitizing the community. We intend to use this opportunity to stimulate the community to take up responsibility of managing their Health Issues _ AIDS Competence. I will keep you updated

Dear Friends,

I am the project coordinator of Nari Saksham, a federation of 10 sex worker community based organisations (CBO) in Rajahmundry, Andhra, India. We are applying community life competence approach through India competence group.

We are planning to conduct Community action day on December 1st , World AIDS Day in our 10 CBOs. This is a different way of celebrating because we hold rallies etc which people forget after that day. But here by conducting SALT visit we will learn about strengths and dreams of the community which will encourage them to achieve their dreams.

We would like to get in touch with anyone who is applying with female sex workers. Olivia, we would like to learn from the Indonesian team. Your event sounds very interesting.

Thanks and best regards,

Padma

Community Action Day - INDONESIA 29th November 2010

75 people from 15 Communities will be coming together for a 2 day workshop in Bandung, Indonesia, hosted by UNFPA.

These 75 people will represent local NGO's working in the area of HIV Prevention from all around Indonesia. Many of the participants come from the Transgender community, Sex Workers, MSM, peer educators within the prison system, IDU's and youth.
They are all passionate field workers and catalysts in their communities, and some have been applying ACP in their communities for the last 3 years.
So.... what will we do?
1... The 15 groups are going to be exiting the UNFPA funded (5 year programme). So... they need to mobilize their own resources for their work to continue in the future. Therefore, our first step is DREAM-BUILDING in community groups.
2...Then, between the 15 groups, we will look for the common dream.
3... 4 or 5 groups will then provide some lighthearted entertainment, focussing on the strengths and uniqueness of their community. They can perform songs, dances, tell a story or facilitate a game....
4... To finish we will play some Dangdut music (the music of Indonesia) and enjoy celebrating this great occaision!

We have had interest from the national media... who we hope will be able to cover this event!

Looking forward to sharing it with you!!!
