I attend the CARE India Emphasis Knoweldge Fair last week in Delhi. I was pleasantly surprised to know that Modicare Foundation had celebrated Commmunity action day with Nepali Migrants. I did not know about it and realised that Community action day has spread far beyong our knowledge. Thanks to Modicare Foundation and Emphasis Team and Rafique and Mousumi for taking it forward.

We are forming the working group for CAD 2011. Would you like to join? It would mean mainly email exchange and a few skype meetings.

Dear Members,

1. What were the high moments in CAD 2010?
2. What worked well in organising the CAD? What were the challenges?
3. What can we do better in 2011?

Trying to respond to the above assessment by Rituu, I would like to comment as follows,
The high moments in CAD for me was the realization that we were all working for the same goal in different communities. It increased a sense of belonging and how possible to make the world small as indicated in our sharing stories.
What worked well was the team work members exhibited despite being in different communities and some times doing different activities.
The challenge for me was that the SALT concept was new. I was used to our traditional way of empowering the community \training and creating awareness. Due to work schedules, I was unable to connect to my colleagues Rosemary and Steven Alege.

Over all, the CAD concept was born and it added value to our communities.

Dear all,

Even though I did not have the time to carefully read all the postings telling about CAD celebrations, I feel that this initiative was the glue that made us feel like working together towards a shared dream. I have the impression that it allowed us to feel that we were sharing the same community event in spite of (or perhaps because of) the differences.

1. What were the high moments in CAD 2010?

One of the most significative outcome of CAD 2010 was that it offered the opportunity to all the Constellation members to come together as one. The fact that so many teams made it to respond locally to this celebration event gives an idea of how much we can do together. I think that is an exciting thought that can be easily transformed into action.

2. What worked well in organising the CAD? What were the challenges?

I think that what made it so impressive was the total openness about the way the event should look like and the issues involved, making it so diverse and colourful. Also, keeping it simple was an added value that brought people to think in the celebration by themselves, adapting it to their communities instead of trying to adapt the community to a schedule of CAD.

The challenges in our environment is the proximity of World Aids Day. Most of organizations are very busy in organizing or being part of institutional events, preparing and presenting reports; doing media presentations etc. This is something that we need to sort out next time in Spain.

3. What can we do better in 2011?

I do not think there is much that needs to be improved as it worked so well (better not to touch what already works?)

Just to make stories easier to read, probably it would be good to prepare in advance a simple way of organizing inputs so that people could read about the topics they are more interested in… Lets say something like adding a tag to the posting or in the title so that posting could be sorted out by issue.

4. How can we involve more members and organisations?

I think that the success of this year’s CAD will do the ‘spreading’. Just by sustaining the activity more and more members and organizations will feel like participating.
