Event Description

The COVID-19 pandemic is shining a light on glaring inequities in our society, especially for communities of color. Black communities across the nation have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and the long-term consequences of this crisis have yet to be seen. Many grassroots organizations are responding to this crisis by organizing and advocating for policy and system changes to address inequities in areas such as employment, education, housing, criminal justice and maternal health plaguing Black communities long before COVID-19.

Join conversation with grassroots organizations from Wilmington, DE; New Orleans, LA; St. Louis, MO; and Detroit, MI to hear about how they are leveraging mutual aid, policy advocacy, community organizing and the delivery of trauma-informed services to advance equity and create sustainable change that will increase the resources, support and resilience Black communities will need to survive and thrive post COVID-19.

Panelists include:
Brandon Coffee-Borden, Managing Associate, Community Science
DeMiktric M. “Mike” Biggs, National Organizer, Formerly Incarcerated Convicted Peoples Families’ Movement
Shané Darby, Community Organizer and current Wilmington City Council Candidate, Network Delaware
Vontriece McDowell, Director of Community Based Interventions, Alive and Well Communities
