Event Description

Action Learning, Action Research Association IncALARA and CultureShift invite you to the 2014 ALARA Conference …

Starting from Here: Self Determination as Functional Reform

7-9 November, Theme I
Self Determination:
Seeding Sustainability using Participatory Knowledge

10-12 November, Theme II
Pathways of Functional Reform:
Developing and Implementing Policy using Participatory Research and Action Learning

The conference is designed for practitioners in the public, corporate, community and academic sectors working toward social and environmental justice in these demanding times. It will engage deeply with theories of practice in participatory research, to support emergent practice within the field.

There are not one but two 2 day events, on the shores of Werrewaa at the Quaker retreat centre Silver Wattle, just north of Canberra. The Conference Call invites you to register your interest, with ....

  • case study — that opens up the choices you face as a practitioner; or,
  • critical learning incident — a stinging moment which stopped you in your tracks and that stays with you for its illuminating powers.

Then join our Yammer network with others interested in the conference. We have passed through our first deadline for contributions, and we now have 7 or so case studies for each theme which our Research Design Team will now develop as a scenario to work with on the second day of each event (see the methodology).

Please still develop and bring your case study or critical learning incident in the conference, and contribute it to the online discussion which is available to those who have registered for the conference.

This is a small conference - we have space for 40 participants only for each theme, so if you are interested, act soon. Email events [at] alarassociation.org, or speak with Susan Goff, +61 (0) 409 139634 to discuss the conference format, or with our conference organiser, Helena Read +61 (0) 400 062930 about the venue and booking arrangements.
