Community Immersion Visit: Who Teaches Whom? কমিউনিটি ইমারশন ভিসিটঃ কে কাকে শেখায়?

১১ই জুলাই ২০২৬ গত শনিবার আমরা Grow Your Reader Foundation Team, অতিথি নিয়ে গিয়েছিলাম পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া আগামীর স্কুলে আমাদের তৃতীয় Community Immersion Visit-এ। এবার আমাদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন ১০ জন অতিথি—বিভিন্ন বয়স, পেশা ও অভিজ্ঞতার মানুষ। এ পর্যন্ত আমরা ৩টি ইমারশন ভিজিট আয়োজন করেছি, যেখানে মোট ২১ জন অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে ছিলেন বিভিন্ন স্কুলের শিক্ষক, কলেজ ও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, ডেভেলপমেন্ট সেক্টরে কাজ করতে আগ্রহী, অভিভাবক এবং আমাদের ডোনার অর্গানাইজেশনের সদস্যরা।

আমাদের ইমারশন শুধু একটি স্কুল ঘুরে দেখার আয়োজন নয়।

এটি এমন একটি অভিজ্ঞতা, যেখানে মানুষ একটি স্কুলের গল্পের ভেতরে প্রবেশ করেন। তাঁরা জানেন, কীভাবে একটি কমিউনিটি নিজেদের শক্তি, শ্রম এবং স্বপ্নকে একত্র করে একটি স্কুল গড়ে তুলেছে। তাঁরা দেখেন, পরিবর্তন সবসময় বড় কোনো প্রতিষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে আসে না; অনেক সময় তা শুরু হয় কয়েকজন মানুষের সম্মিলিত উদ্যোগ থেকেই।

একই সঙ্গে এটি একে অপরের কাছ থেকে শেখার একটি উন্মুক্ত প্ল্যাটফর্ম।

আমাদের অতিথিরা শুধু শিখতে আসেন না, তাঁরা তাঁদের অভিজ্ঞতাও আমাদের শিক্ষকদের সঙ্গে ভাগ করে নেন। তাঁরা দেখান কীভাবে ক্লাসরুমকে আরও প্রাণবন্ত করা যায়, কীভাবে খুব কম খরচে কিংবা কোনো খরচ ছাড়াই Teaching Learning Materials তৈরি করা যায়, কীভাবে অভিভাবক ও কমিউনিটির মানুষদের শিশুদের শিক্ষার সঙ্গে আরও সম্পৃক্ত করা যায়।

আমার বিশেষভাবে মনে আছে আমাদের তৃতীয় ইমারশনের কথা।

সেদিন পাবনার একটি বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, ১৪ বছরের অভিজ্ঞতাসম্পন্ন রওনক আপু, আমাদের শিক্ষকদের সঙ্গে তাঁর দীর্ঘ অভিজ্ঞতা ভাগ করে নিয়েছিলেন। তিনি বলেছিলেন, কীভাবে তাঁরা শুরু থেকেই কমিউনিটির মানুষের মধ্যে শিক্ষা নিয়ে আগ্রহ তৈরি করেছেন এবং সেই কাজে নিজেদের এলাকার পরিচিত ও অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী মানুষদেরও যুক্ত করেছিলেন। তাঁর অভিজ্ঞতা আমাদের শিক্ষকদের নতুনভাবে ভাবতে সাহায্য করেছে।

আরেকজন অতিথি ছিলেন ফারজানা আপু, নালন্দা স্কুলের একজন শিক্ষক, যিনি প্রায় ১০ বছর ধরে শিশুদের পড়াচ্ছেন। তিনি আমাদের প্রি-প্রাইমারি শ্রেণিতে একটি বানর নিয়ে কবিতা শেখান। শুধু কবিতা পড়াননি—নাচ, গান, অঙ্গভঙ্গি আর খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে পুরো ক্লাসকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তুলেছিলেন। আমাদের শিক্ষকেরা বিস্মিত হয়ে বলেছিলেন, "এভাবেও তো পড়ানো যায়!"

আজ আমাদের শিক্ষকেরাও কবিতা শেখানোর সময় একইভাবে আনন্দময় কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে শিশুদের শেখানোর চেষ্টা করেন।

পরিবর্তন শুধু শিক্ষকদের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ থাকেনি; শিশুদের মধ্যেও এসেছে।

আগে যদি আমাদের শিশুদের কিছু আঁকতে বলা হতো, তারা প্রায় সবাই শুধু জাতীয় পতাকার ছবি আঁকত। এখন তারা বাড়ি, গাছ, নদী, মানুষ, পশুপাখি, গল্পের চরিত্র—নিজেদের কল্পনার অসংখ্য ছবি আঁকে। তাদের কল্পনার জগৎ অনেক প্রসারিত হয়েছে। কারণ, আমাদের অতিথিরা তাদের গল্প শোনান, প্রশ্ন করেন, ভাবতে শেখান এবং সেই কল্পনাগুলোকে ছবিতে ফুটিয়ে তুলতে উৎসাহ দেন।

ধীরে ধীরে এই ইমারশন হয়ে উঠেছে এমন একটি জায়গা, যেখানে শেখাটা শুধু একমুখী নয়।

অতিথিরা কমিউনিটি থেকে শেখেন, আবার কমিউনিটিও অতিথিদের কাছ থেকে শেখে।

আর সবচেয়ে সুন্দর বিষয় হলো—আমাদের অতিথিরা যখন আমাদের শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী এবং কমিউনিটির মানুষদের আন্তরিকভাবে প্রশংসা করেন, তখন তাঁদের আত্মবিশ্বাস অনেক বেড়ে যায়। আগে যে গ্রামের অনেক নারী ঘরের বাইরে আসতেন না, এখন আমরা যখন অতিথিদের নিয়ে যাই, তখন নারী-পুরুষ সবাই এগিয়ে এসে তাঁদের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে চান, নিজেদের গল্প বলতে চান, নিজেদের কাজ দেখাতে চান।

পরিবর্তনের এই ছোট ছোট দৃশ্যগুলোই আমাদের সবচেয়ে বড় প্রাপ্তি।

ইমারশনের প্রভাব শুধু সেই দিনের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ থাকে না।

আমাদের অতিথিরা তাঁদের অভিজ্ঞতার গল্প পরিবার, সহকর্মী ও বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে ভাগ করে নেন। এর মাধ্যমে তাঁরা শুধু পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া আগামীর স্কুলের নয়, বরং Community-led Development-এরও নীরব দূত হয়ে ওঠেন। তাঁদের গল্প শুনে আরও অনেকে এই ইমারশন অভিজ্ঞতার অংশ হতে আগ্রহী হচ্ছেন।

আরও একটি সুন্দর পরিবর্তন আমরা লক্ষ্য করছি।

শুধু স্কুল নয়, এই ইমারশন থেকে উপকৃত হচ্ছেন কমিউনিটির মানুষরাও। গ্রামের নারীরা ও কৃষকেরা তাঁদের নিজের হাতে উৎপাদিত শাকসবজি, ফলমূল, হাঁস-মুরগি এবং অন্যান্য কৃষিপণ্য সরাসরি আমাদের অতিথিদের কাছে বিক্রি করছেন। শুধু গত ইমারশনেই প্রায় ৪,০০০ টাকার কেনাবেচা হয়েছে।

একদিকে অতিথিরা পাচ্ছেন টাটকা, নিরাপদ ও স্থানীয়ভাবে উৎপাদিত খাবার। অন্যদিকে গ্রামের নারীরা ও কৃষকেরা বাড়ি থেকে দূরে না গিয়েই নিজেদের উৎপাদিত পণ্যের ন্যায্য ক্রেতা পাচ্ছেন এবং আয় করার সুযোগ তৈরি হচ্ছে।

হয়তো এই সংখ্যাগুলো খুব বড় নয়।

কিন্তু এর পেছনের গল্পটা অনেক বড়।

একটি ইমারশন ভিজিট ধীরে ধীরে এমন একটি প্ল্যাটফর্মে পরিণত হচ্ছে, যেখানে মানুষ শুধু একে অপরের কাছ থেকে শেখেই না—একে অপরের শক্তিকে মূল্য দেয়, একে অপরের কাজকে সম্মান করে, একে অপরের জন্য নতুন সুযোগ তৈরি করে।

আমার কাছে এটাই Community-led Development-এর সবচেয়ে সুন্দর রূপ।

 

On 11 July 2026, the Grow Your Reader Foundation Team organized our third Community Immersion Visit in Pahariapara Agamir School. This time, we were joined by 10 guests from diverse backgrounds, professions, and age groups. Across our three immersion visits so far, 21 participants have taken part, including school teachers, college and university students, people interested in the development sector, parents, and members of our donor organization.

Our immersion is much more than a school visit.

It is an experience that allows people to step into the story behind the school. Visitors learn how a community came together with its own strengths, efforts, and dreams to build a school from the ground up. They see that meaningful change does not always begin with large institutions—it often starts with the collective efforts of ordinary people.

At the same time, the immersion creates an open platform for mutual learning. Our guests do not come only to observe; they also share their own experiences with our teachers. They demonstrate how classrooms can become more engaging, how Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) can be created with little or no cost, and how parents and community members can be more actively involved in children's education.

One moment from our third immersion stands out in particular.

Rownak Apa, a teacher from Pabna with 14 years of teaching experience, shared how her school had gradually built strong community engagement around education. She explained how they involved respected local role models and influential community members to inspire families to value education. Her experience encouraged our teachers to think differently about strengthening community participation.

Another guest, Farzana Apa, a teacher from Nalanda School with nearly 10 years of experience, conducted a poetry session with our pre-primary children. Rather than simply reading the poem, she brought it to life through songs, movement, gestures, and playful activities. Our teachers watched in amazement and said, "We never imagined poetry could be taught this way!"

Today, many of our teachers have begun using similar joyful and activity-based approaches in their own classrooms.

The transformation has not been limited to teachers—it has also reached our children.

There was a time when, if asked to draw, almost every child would draw only the national flag. Today, they confidently draw houses, rivers, trees, animals, people, story characters, and scenes from their imagination. Their creative world has expanded significantly because our guests tell stories, ask thoughtful questions, encourage curiosity, and inspire children to express those ideas through art.

Gradually, our immersion has become a place where learning flows in every direction.

Visitors learn from the community, and the community learns from the visitors.

Perhaps the most beautiful outcome is the confidence it has built within the community. When our guests sincerely appreciate the efforts of the teachers, students, and community members, people begin to see the value of their own work. Women who once rarely stepped outside their homes now come forward to welcome visitors, share their stories, and proudly showcase what they have created.

These small moments of change have become our greatest achievements.

The impact of the immersion extends far beyond the day of the visit.

Our guests return home and share their experiences with family members, colleagues, and friends. In doing so, they become quiet ambassadors not only for Agamir School but also for the idea of community-led development. Their stories inspire others to join future immersion visits and experience this journey for themselves.

We have also witnessed another meaningful change.

The immersion has created new economic opportunities for the community. Local women and farmers now sell fresh vegetables, fruits, ducks, chickens, and other agricultural products directly to our visitors. During our most recent immersion alone, community members sold products worth approximately BDT 4,000.

Visitors benefit by purchasing fresh, locally produced food, while women and farmers earn income without leaving their villages or relying on distant markets.

The numbers may seem small.

But the story behind them is much bigger.

Our Community Immersion is gradually becoming a platform where people do more than learn from one another. They recognize each other's strengths, celebrate each other's work, create new opportunities together, and build relationships rooted in mutual respect.

To me, this is the most beautiful expression of community-led development.
