Trees are our Friend & Future

During our meeting with the boys from the villages of Shobharampur and Ramchandrapur, we discussed a variety of important topics to raise awareness and encourage positive thinking. Prior to the meeting, we had introduced the idea of World Environment Day, and the boys showed genuine interest in the theme.

Nowadays, many children spend most of their time on mobile phones, pay less attention to their parents, and show little interest in their studies. Even bringing the boys together for a meeting has become a significant challenge. To address this, the boys themselves came up with a simple but meaningful plan—to spend some time away from their phones and do something beneficial for their community.

Since 5 June is celebrated as World Environment Day, they decided to organize a tree-planting activity involving other boys from their villages. In Ramchandrapur, they planned to plant trees around the house where they regularly hold their meetings. In Shobharampur, they chose the playground where they usually gather to play.

Before World Environment Day, the boys held a planning meeting to discuss how they would celebrate the occasion. They first identified suitable locations for planting trees, including empty roadside areas in the village, their home gardens, around the meeting place, and the playgrounds. They intentionally selected places they pass by every day so they could regularly observe and care for the trees. They then collected small saplings from different parts of the village and gathered them in one place. Each participant brought tools from home, such as sickles, spades, and buckets. After making all the necessary preparations, they set out on 5 June to carry out the tree-planting activity. Together, the boys planted a total of 30 trees across different locations in the two villages.

After the activity, we asked the children whether they had ever participated in such work before. One boy shared, "At home, my father plants flowering plants, and I help take care of them, but we rarely plant trees." The others said that they had never planted trees before. We then asked how they felt after planting the trees. Their responses were thoughtful and inspiring. They said that, for the first time, they truly felt the deep connection between themselves and the soil. They shared that planting trees brought them a sense of inner peace that is difficult to express in words. Some said they were excited to watch the trees grow and hoped to see how long they would live in the future. One participant beautifully remarked, "Trees are like children—the more love and care you give them, the more they flourish." The boys also reflected that they usually spend time together playing games and chatting, but they had never discussed or worked on anything related to trees or the environment. They realized that working together to plant trees gave them a unique sense of joy, teamwork, and accomplishment—an experience they had never felt before.

গাছ আমাদের বন্ধু ও ভবিষ্যত

শোভারামপুর ও রামচন্দ্রপুর এই দুটি গ্রামের ছেলেদের নিয়ে মিটিং করার সময় আমরা বিভিন্ন বিষয় নিয়ে সচেতন করি ও বোঝাই| আমরা আগে থেকেই তাদেরকে বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস নিয়ে বলেছিলাম| তারা এই বিষয়টির প্রতি আগ্রহী ছিল|

এখনকার ছেলেরা বেশিরভাগ সময় ফোন নিয়ে পরে থাকে, বাবা-মায়ের কথা শোনেনা, পড়াশোনার প্রতি গুরুত্ব দেয়না| ছেলেদেরকে একত্রিত করে কোনো মিটিং করাটাই চালেন্জিং হয়ে পড়েছে এখন| তাই অল্প একটু সময়ের জন্য হলেও ফোন থেকে দুরে থাকার জন্য ছেলেরা একটি পরিকল্পনা করেছে| 5^th June বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবস ছিল| ছেলেরা ঠিক করে যে এইদিন তাদের গ্রামের কিছু ছেলেকে নিয়ে একটি জায়গায় গাছ বসাবে| রামচন্দ্রপুর যেখানে তারা সবসময় মিটিং করে সেই বাড়িটার চারপাশে গাছ বসাবে| শোভারামপুর গ্রামের যেখানে তারা সবসময় খেলা করে সেখানে গাছ বসাবে|

বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবসের আগে ছেলেরা সবাই মিলে একটি মিটিং এর দ্বারা পরিকল্পনা করে নেয় যে কিভাবে তারা এই দিনটি উদযাপন করবে| তারা সবার আগে জায়গা ঠিক করে যে কোথায় কোথায় তারা গাছগুলি বসাবে| তারা ঠিক করে গ্রামের ফাঁকা রাস্তা, নিজেদের বাড়ির বাগানে, যে ঘরে মিটিং করে তার চারপাশে, খেলার জায়গায় অর্থাৎ যে রাস্তা দিয়ে তারা সবসময় চলাফেরা করে এবং গাছগুলিকে প্রত্যহ দেখতে পারবে সেইসব জায়গায় গাছ বসাবে| তারপর গ্রামের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় পরে থাকা ছোট ছোট গাছ সংগ্রহ করে একজায়গায় করবে, সবাই সবার বাড়ি থেকে কাস্তে, কোদাল, বালতি নিয়ে আসবে| এই সমস্ত কিছু যোগার করে নিয়ে তারা 5^th June গাছ বসানোর উদ্যেশ্যে বেরিয়ে পরে| দুটি গ্রামের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় মোট 30 টি গাছ বসিয়েছে|

সমস্ত গাছ বসানোর পর আমরা শিশুদেরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলাম যে আগে কখনো এমন কাজ করেছ? একজন বলল আমাদের বাড়িতে বাবা ফুলগাছ বসানোর পরে আমি তার যত্ন করি কিন্তু গাছ খুব একটা বসানো হয়না| আর সবাই বলল কেউ গাছ বসায়না| তাই আমরা জিজ্ঞাসা করলাম যে কেমন লাগলো গাছগুলি বসিয়ে! তারা বলল যে প্রথমবার মাটির সাথে নিজেদের যে আত্মার সম্পর্ক রয়েছে তা অনুভব করেছি, গাছ বসিয়ে একটি মানসিক শান্তি পাওয়া যায় যা মুখে বলে প্রকাশ করা যাবেনা, গাছ লাগিয়ে আমি দেখতে চাই ভবিষ্যতে এই গাছগুলি কতদিন বাঁচে, গাছেরাও শিশুদের মতো-তাদের যত ভালবাসা দেবে তারা তত বেশি হাসতে শেখাবে| এছাড়াও আমরা বন্ধুরা মিলে সবসময় খেলাধুলা করি, গল্প করি কিন্তু গাছ নিয়ে কোনো আলোচনা হয়না| তাই গাছ বসানোর সময় যে কাজগুলি আমরা সবাই মিলে করছিলাম সেই কাজগুলিতে একটা আলাদা আনন্দ রয়েছে যেটা আমরা এইদিন অনুভব করেছি|
