An Exposure Visit: Countless Lessons and People Who Became Like Family

June 24–30 | Rural Aid Organization Exposure Visit

Some journeys do more than just show us new places; they teach us to discover something new within ourselves. My exposure visits to the Rural Aid Organization from June 24 to 30 was exactly that kind of experience. The primary objective of this trip was to observe and learn from their long-standing work on the GFC ARC Project—specifically how they work with children, resolve various issues, engage with the community, and foster community-led initiatives. I also had a valuable opportunity to learn how concepts like "Organization Dream," "Community Dream," and "Self-Assessment" are put into practice.

 However, upon returning, I realized I had learned more than just operational methods; I gained profound insights into people, relationships, teamwork, and dedication to the work. What impressed me most about the Rural Aid Organization staff was their teamwork, energy, humility, and willingness to share knowledge. Despite their vast experience, there was no trace of arrogance; even at the end of a tiring day, their commitment to teaching us never wavered. They openly shared their work, experiences, strategies, and lessons learned. Not once did I feel like an outsider from a different organization; instead, they demonstrated an extraordinary mindset of helping others move forward. A key takeaway for me was a renewed resolve: I will fulfill the purpose for which I set out and give my absolute best to reach the goal I am pursuing. I witnessed this determination in their work and wish to embody it in my own. Through SALT Conversations, we emphasize appreciating people's strengths, learning from them, and transferring that knowledge. We had met briefly at a convening in Kolkata, but during this exposure visit a few months later, we bonded so deeply that it felt like a long-standing relationship. The beautiful bond formed between the staff of the Rural Aid Organization and our own organization is one of the greatest rewards of this trip. Their hospitality also touched me deeply.  From the accommodation and meals to the care taken with every detail—big or small—and the loving gesture of having food served onto my plate by hand, not for a single moment did I feel like I was away from home. We learned, laughed, had fun, and shared meals together; in a very short time, I formed bonds with people that felt like lifelong connections. One small yet cherished memory from this trip will always stay with me. One day, while heading to the community, Ujana-di invited me to ride pillion on her scooter. I agreed instantly. The winding roads, the stunning scenery, and the journey on the back of the scooter brought a profound sense of peace to my mind. The relationship transcended that of mere colleagues; it evolved into a friendship and, at times, a bond akin to that of an elder sister. In that moment, I felt truly inspired and grateful to be part of the GFC ARC Project; otherwise, I might never have encountered such wonderful people, relationships, and memories. I experienced that same warmth within the community as well. Not for a moment did they make us feel like outsiders. They conversed, laughed, took photos, shook hands, and shared their joy with us. At the Community Knowledge Fair, we danced, laughed, and celebrated together, sharing a meal side by side.

This experience taught me that working with a community isn't just about conducting meetings, sessions, or activities; it is about sitting with them, listening to their stories, sharing in their happiness, and gradually becoming a part of their lives. Above all, I witnessed firsthand how a volunteer or community worker can operate while remaining deeply grounded and connected to the people. My time with the Rural Aid Organization taught me that working with the community is far more important than merely working for them; it is not just about solving their problems, but about helping them recognize their own strengths, take initiative, and forge their own paths. June 24th to 30th—on the calendar, these are just a few days. Yet, for me, this brief period represents a special chapter filled with countless lessons, love, relationships, joy, and personal transformation. My greatest endeavor now will be to ensure that what I have learned does not remain merely a memory.  I wish to apply the lessons I have learned—regarding Organizational Dreams, Community Dreams, self-assessment, community initiatives, teamwork, SALT conversations, and appreciating the power of people—to my own GFC ARC Project. I want to bring about a positive change in my own way of working. I hope the community members will not view me merely as a project staff member, but will trust and embrace me, and feel comfortable sharing their thoughts. I want to work with them, not just for them. Some journeys show us new places, while others teach us to discover ourselves anew.

To me, this exposure visit has been precisely that kind of journey—an extraordinary experience of learning, love, relationship-building, inspiration, and viewing my work from a fresh perspective.

২৪–৩০ জুন | Rural Aid Organization Exposure Visit

কিছু কিছু যাত্রা শুধু নতুন জায়গা দেখায় না, নিজের ভেতরেও নতুন কিছু আবিষ্কার করতে শেখায়। গত ২৪ থেকে ৩০ জুন Rural Aid Organization-এ Exposure Visit আমার কাছে ঠিক তেমনই একটি অভিজ্ঞতা।এই সফরের মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল GFC ARC Project-এ তাদের দীর্ঘদিনের কাজের অভিজ্ঞতা কাছ থেকে দেখা ও শেখা বিশেষ করে শিশুদের নিয়ে তারা কীভাবে কাজ করছে, বিভিন্ন সমস্যা কীভাবে সমাধান করছে, কমিউনিটির সঙ্গে কীভাবে মিশে কাজ করছে এবং কমিউনিটির মানুষ নিজেরা কতটা Initiative নিতে পারছে। পাশাপাশি Organization Dream, Community Dream এবং Self-Assessment কীভাবে বাস্তবে করা হয়, সেটিও শেখার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সুযোগ পেয়েছি। কিন্তু ফিরে এসে মনে হয়েছে, আমি শুধু কাজের পদ্ধতি শিখিনি মানুষ, সম্পর্ক, Teamwork এবং কাজের প্রতি দায়বদ্ধতারও এক গভীর শিক্ষা নিয়ে ফিরেছি।Rural Aid Organization-এর কর্মীদের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি যে বিষয়টি আমাকে মুগ্ধ করেছে, তা হলো তাদের Teamwork, Energy, বিনয় এবং শেখানোর উদারতা। এত অভিজ্ঞতা থাকা সত্ত্বেও তাদের মধ্যে কোনো অহংকার দেখিনি। দিনের শেষে ক্লান্তি থাকলেও আমাদের শেখানোর ক্ষেত্রে এক শতাংশও কমতি ছিল না। তারা তাদের কাজ, অভিজ্ঞতা, Strategy এবং শেখাগুলো সম্পূর্ণ উজাড় করে আমাদের সামনে তুলে ধরেছেন। একবারও মনে হয়নি এরা অন্য Organization থেকে এসেছে, সবকিছু কেন বলব? বরং তাদের মধ্যে ছিল অন্যকে এগিয়ে যেতে সাহায্য করার এক অসাধারণ মানসিকতা। এই সফর থেকে আমি খুব গভীরভাবে একটি বিষয় শিখেছি আমি যে উদ্দেশ্য নিয়ে এসেছি, সেই উদ্দেশ্য পূরণ করবই; যে লক্ষ্য নিয়ে পথ চলছি, সেই লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছানোর জন্য নিজের সর্বোচ্চটুকু দেব। এই দৃঢ়তা আমি তাদের কাজের মধ্যে অনুভব করেছি এবং নিজের কাজেও ধরে রাখতে চাই। SALT Conversation-এর মাধ্যমে আমরা মানুষের শক্তিকে Appreciate করা, তাদের কাছ থেকে Learn করা এবং শেখাকে Transfer করার কথা বলি। এর আগে কলকাতার Convening-এ আমাদের দেখা হয়েছিল, অল্প সময় কথা হয়েছিল। কিন্তু কয়েক মাস পর এই Exposure Visit-এ এত গভীরভাবে একে অপরের সঙ্গে মিশে গেলাম যে মনে হচ্ছিল, এ যেন বহু দিনের পুরনো সম্পর্ক। Rural Aid Organization এবং আমাদের Organization-এর Staff-দের মধ্যে যে সুন্দর বন্ধন তৈরি হয়েছে, তা আমার কাছে এই সফরের অন্যতম বড় প্রাপ্তি। তাদের Hospitality-ও আমাকে গভীরভাবে স্পর্শ করেছে। থাকা, খাওয়া-দাওয়া, প্রতিটি ছোট-বড় বিষয়ে যত্ন, ভালোবেসে নিজের হাতে প্লেটে খাবার তুলে দেওয়া সবকিছু মিলিয়ে এক মুহূর্তের জন্যও মনে হয়নি আমি বাড়ির বাইরে আছি। আমরা একসঙ্গে শিখেছি, হেসেছি, মজা করেছি, খেয়েছি—আর খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই এমন কিছু মানুষকে আপন করে নিয়েছি, যাদের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কটা যেন অনেক দিনের।এই সফরের একটি ছোট কিন্তু খুব প্রিয় স্মৃতি আমার মনে বিশেষভাবে থেকে যাবে। একদিন কমিউনিটিতে যাওয়ার সময় উজনা দি আমাকে তাঁর স্কুটির পিছনে বসে যাওয়ার প্রস্তাব দিলেন। আমি এক মুহূর্তেই রাজি হয়ে গেলাম। সেই আঁকাবাঁকা পথ, চারপাশের অপূর্ব দৃশ্য, স্কুটির পিছনে বসে এগিয়ে যাওয়া সবকিছু আমার মনকে এক অদ্ভুত শান্তি দিয়েছিল। কোথাও যেন একজন সহকর্মীর সম্পর্ক পেরিয়ে একজন বন্ধু, আবার কোথাও একজন দিদির সম্পর্ক আরও গভীর হয়ে উঠেছিল। সেই মুহূর্তে মনে হয়েছিল, GFC ARC Project-এর সঙ্গে যুক্ত হতে পেরে আমি সত্যিই মুগ্ধ ও কৃতজ্ঞ; নইলে হয়তো এমন মানুষ, এমন সম্পর্ক এবং এমন স্মৃতির সঙ্গে আমার পরিচয় হতো না। কমিউনিটিতে গিয়েও আমি একই রকম ভালোবাসা অনুভব করেছি। এক মুহূর্তের জন্যও তারা আমাদের Outsider মনে হতে দেয়নি। তারা আমাদের সঙ্গে কথা বলেছেন, হেসেছেন, ছবি তুলেছেন, হাত মিলিয়েছেন এবং আনন্দ ভাগ করে নিয়েছেন। Community Knowledge Fair-এ আমরা একসঙ্গে নেচেছি, হেসেছি, আনন্দ করেছি এবং পাশাপাশি বসে দুপুরের খাবার খেয়েছি। এই অভিজ্ঞতা আমাকে বুঝিয়েছে কমিউনিটির সঙ্গে কাজ করা মানে শুধু Meeting, Session বা Activity করা নয় তাদের পাশে বসা, তাদের কথা শোনা, তাদের আনন্দের অংশ হওয়া এবং ধীরে ধীরে তাদের আপনজন হয়ে ওঠা। সবচেয়ে বড় কথা, আমি খুব কাছ থেকে দেখেছি একজন স্বেচ্ছাসেবক বা কমিউনিটি কর্মী কীভাবে একদম মাটির সঙ্গে যুক্ত থেকে কাজ করতে পারে। Rural Aid Organization-এর কাজ আমাকে শিখিয়েছে কমিউনিটির জন্য কাজ করার চেয়েও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হলো কমিউনিটির সঙ্গে কাজ করা; তাদের সমস্যা শুধু সমাধান করে দেওয়া নয়, বরং তাদের নিজেদের শক্তি চিনতে, Initiative নিতে এবং নিজেদের পথ তৈরি করতে সাহায্য করা।২৪ থেকে ৩০ জুন—ক্যালেন্ডারের হিসাবে মাত্র কয়েকটি দিন। কিন্তু আমার কাছে এই কয়েকটি দিন অসংখ্য শিক্ষা, ভালোবাসা, সম্পর্ক, আনন্দ এবং নিজের ভেতরের পরিবর্তনের এক বিশেষ অধ্যায়।এখন আমার সবচেয়ে বড় চেষ্টা থাকবে আমি যা শিখেছি, তা যেন শুধু স্মৃতি হয়ে না থাকে। Organization Dream, Community Dream, Self-Assessment, Community Initiative, Teamwork, SALT Conversation এবং মানুষের শক্তিকে Appreciate করার যে শিক্ষা পেয়েছি, তা আমি আমার নিজের GFC ARC Project-এর কাজে প্রয়োগ করতে চাই। আমি চাই, আমার কাজের ধরনেও ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আসুক। কমিউনিটির মানুষ যেন আমাকে শুধু একজন Project Staff হিসেবে না দেখে তারা যেন আমাকে বিশ্বাস করে, আপন করে নেয় এবং নিজেদের কথা বলতে পারে। আমিও যেন তাদের জন্য শুধু কাজ না করি তাদের সঙ্গে কাজ করতে পারি। কিছু সফর আমাদের নতুন জায়গা দেখায়, আর কিছু সফর আমাদের নতুন করে নিজেকেই চিনতে শেখায়।

আমার কাছে এই Exposure Visit ঠিক তেমনই একটি যাত্রা শেখার, ভালোবাসার, সম্পর্কের, অনুপ্রেরণার এবং নিজের কাজকে নতুনভাবে দেখার এক অসাধারণ অভিজ্ঞতা।
