My name is Poonam Mishra, and I am from Uttar Pradesh, India. I work as a teacher, social worker, and SALT Facilitator. Today, I am delighted to share my experience of implementing the SALT approach (Share – Appreciate – Listen – Transfer) within my community.

Recently, I facilitated SALT and Life Skills sessions with 40 adolescents. The experience was highly enriching, and the outcomes were both encouraging and inspiring. Through the SALT process, adolescents were provided with a safe and supportive platform to share their personal stories, experiences, challenges, and aspirations.

As we listened carefully to their stories, we gained valuable insights into several social and personal issues affecting their lives and communities—many of which had previously remained unnoticed. The sessions not only strengthened communication and trust but also helped participants feel heard, valued, and respected.

The impact of the SALT methodology was remarkable. Witnessing these positive changes motivated local Community Mobilizers to integrate SALT into their regular Action Plans. They committed to conducting SALT conversations during their routine meetings with adolescents to encourage meaningful dialogue and active participation.

These conversations have contributed significantly to the personal growth and confidence of adolescents. They have helped young people identify their strengths, recognize their potential, improve their communication skills, and support one another through shared learning and encouragement. The process has empowered them to become more self-aware, responsible, and resilient members of their

communities.

The success of these sessions demonstrates that SALT is a powerful tool for fostering positive change, strengthening relationships, and promoting community-led development. I look forward to continuing this work and expanding its impact in the future.
