One of the festivals of the Santal community is Baha Parab.

Welcome to the Bahaba Parva is a major and sacred festival of the Santal community. It is also known as the Flower Festival. This festival is celebrated in the spring when new flowers bloom on the trees.

When is it celebrated?

The festival of Baha usually takes place in the spring season in the English (February-March) month of Pangun.

 Why is it celebrated?

Welcome to the spring season. To honor new flowers and nature. To worship the gods and goddesses of the village.

 Wishing you happiness, prosperity and well-being.

 On this day, the Santals worship the main deities of the Santals – Marang Baru and the Goddess of Zaher Than – Zaher Era. The puja was held at the holy place of the village, Zaher Than. The village priest (the hero) performs the puja.

 How is it celebrated?

 Offering flowers to the gods. Santali traditional songs and dances. Playing tumda and tomatoes. Traditional clothing. Khichdi (prasad) is given to the children and elders of the village. Cultural Significance: Baha Parva expresses unity in the Santal community, love for culture and nature. This festival is celebrated mostly in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar.
