My name is Monisha Das, and I am a proud facilitator of Ashirbad Organization. After a long time, I picked up my pen again today, because amidst the routines of everyday work, some experiences accumulate that make me feel incomplete if I don’t write them down.

Every day, I visit the Harijan Palli community for SALT activities. After entering the area, my first task is always to check in with the people I regularly have SALT conversations with—asking how they are doing, sitting beside them for a while, and listening to stories from their daily lives. Then I walk through the entire area carefully. I spend some time talking with the small children, trying to read the language of their eyes. I also sit with the women for five to ten minutes, listening attentively to their stories of laughter, sorrow, hope, and disappointment.

Through this regular engagement, one thing has repeatedly caught my attention. Almost everywhere, girls’ participation and prioritization are comparatively higher, and the girls are also very enthusiastic about being involved—this is undoubtedly encouraging.

However, alongside this, I have observed another, deeper reality. In Harijan Palli, many boys start working as sanitation workers at a very young age. Before childhood games, education, and dreams, the burden of responsibility falls heavily on their shoulders.

One day, when I started a SALT conversation with the boys, I had the opportunity to engage deeply with seven brave, sincere, and outspoken boys. Their manner of speaking, the confidence in their eyes, and the fire within their hearts moved me deeply. From that conversation, we decided to form a small group with them.

They chose the name of the group themselves—“Path of Light.”

The name itself seems to hold their dreams and goals.

These seven children are truly talented. In any positive social initiative, they always step forward on their own—without pressure or persuasion. They take responsibility for keeping their area clean, raise awareness among others, and lead by example. There is an extraordinary sense of unity and bonding among them—they stand firmly beside one another.

The most beautiful part is that they have a clear goal: to transform the Harijan Palli community into an ideal community.

Not only that, everyone in this team loves to sing and enjoys playing musical instruments. In between work or during moments of rest, they sing together and create music—as if music brings a ray of light into their challenging lives. Among the seven, there is a remarkable harmony in thought, attitude, and values.

This “Path of Light” team has taught me to believe again— no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, if the heart is oriented toward light, a path will surely emerge.

I am proud, I am inspired, and I am hopeful.

Because in the eyes of these seven children, I see not only the present, but a bright vision of the future.আমি মনিষা দাস—আশির্বাদ অর্গানাইজেশনের একজন গর্বিত ফ্যাসিলেটর। অনেক দিন পর আজ আবার কলম ধরলাম, কারণ প্রতিদিনের কাজের ফাঁকে এমন কিছু অভিজ্ঞতা জমে ওঠে, যেগুলো না লিখলে মনে হয় নিজেকেই অসম্পূর্ণ রেখে দিচ্ছি।

প্রতিদিন আমি হরিজন পল্লী কমিউনিটিতে সল্ট কার্যক্রমে যাই। এলাকায় প্রবেশ করার পর আমার প্রথম কাজই হলো—আগে যাদের সঙ্গে সল্ট কনভারসেশন করি, তাদের ভালো-মন্দ জিজ্ঞেস করা। একটু সময় নিয়ে তাদের পাশে বসে গল্প করা, তাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের কথা শোনা। তারপর পুরো এলাকাটা ভালো করে ঘুরে দেখি। ছোট ছোট বাচ্চাদের সঙ্গে কিছুক্ষণ গল্প করি, তাদের চোখের ভাষা পড়ার চেষ্টা করি। আর যারা মহিলারা আছেন, তাদের সঙ্গে পাঁচ-দশ মিনিট বসে কথা বলি—তাদের হাসি, দুঃখ, আশা-নিরাশার গল্পগুলো মন দিয়ে শুনি।

এই নিয়মিত যাতায়াতের মধ্যেই একটা বিষয় বারবার চোখে পড়েছে। প্রায় সব জায়গাতেই মেয়েদের অংশগ্রহণ ও অগ্রাধিকার তুলনামূলকভাবে বেশি, এবং মেয়েরাও খুব আগ্রহ নিয়ে যুক্ত থাকে—এটা নিঃসন্দেহে আশাব্যঞ্জক।

কিন্তু এর পাশাপাশি আমার চোখে পড়েছে আরেকটি ভিন্ন ও গভীর বাস্তবতা—হরিজন পল্লীতে অনেক ছেলে খুব অল্প বয়সেই পরিচ্ছন্নতা কর্মী হিসেবে কাজে নেমে পড়ে। শৈশবের খেলাধুলা, পড়াশোনা, স্বপ্ন—সবকিছুর আগেই তাদের কাঁধে এসে পড়ে দায়িত্বের ভার।

একদিন যখন আমি ছেলেদের সঙ্গে সল্ট কনভারসেশন শুরু করলাম, তখন কিছু সাহসী, আন্তরিক ও স্পষ্টভাষী সাতজন ছেলের সঙ্গে গভীরভাবে কথা বলার সুযোগ হলো। তাদের কথা বলার ভঙ্গি, চোখে আত্মবিশ্বাস আর মনের ভেতরের আগুন আমাকে ভীষণভাবে নাড়া দিল। সেই কথোপকথন থেকেই আমরা তাদের নিয়ে একটি ছোট গ্রুপ তৈরি করলাম।

এই গ্রুপের নাম তারা নিজেরাই ঠিক করল—“আলোর পথ”।

নামটার মধ্যেই যেন তাদের স্বপ্ন আর লক্ষ্য লুকিয়ে আছে।

এই সাতজন বাচ্চা সত্যিই ভীষণ প্রতিভাবান। সমাজের যেকোনো ভালো কাজে তারা সবসময় নিজেরাই এগিয়ে আসে—কোনো চাপ বা অনুরোধ ছাড়াই। তারা নিজের দায়িত্বে এলাকার পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্নতার কাজ করে, অন্যদের সচেতন করে, উদাহরণ তৈরি করে। তাদের মধ্যে অসাধারণ মিল ও বন্ধন রয়েছে—একজন আরেকজনের পাশে শক্ত হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।

সবচেয়ে সুন্দর বিষয় হলো, তাদের একটি স্পষ্ট লক্ষ্য আছে—

হরিজন পল্লী কমিউনিটিকে একটি আদর্শ কমিউনিটিতে রূপান্তর করা।

শুধু তাই নয়, এই টিমের সবাই গান করতে ভালোবাসে, বাদ্যযন্ত্র বাজাতে পছন্দ করে। কাজের ফাঁকে বা অবসরে তারা একসাথে গান গায়, সুর তোলে—যেন তাদের ক্লান্ত জীবনেও সঙ্গীত একটু আলো এনে দেয়। সাতজনের মধ্যে চিন্তা, মনোভাব আর মূল্যবোধে আশ্চর্যরকম মিল রয়েছে।

এই “আলোর পথ” টিমটা আমাকে নতুন করে বিশ্বাস করতে শিখিয়েছে—

পরিস্থিতি যত কঠিনই হোক, যদি মনটা আলোর দিকে থাকে, তাহলে পথ ঠিকই তৈরি হয়।

আমি গর্বিত, আমি অনুপ্রাণিত—এবং আমি আশাবাদী।

কারণ এই সাতজন বাচ্চার চোখে আমি শুধু বর্তমান নয়, ভবিষ্যতের একটা উজ্জ্বল ছবি দেখতে পাই।
