The Change We Saw: Our First and This Knowledge Fair

১৫ ই ডিসেম্বর, আমাদের ব্যাসপুর কমিউনিটির মানুষের আয়োজনে ব্যাসপুর গ্রামের উত্তরপাড়ায় অনু্ষ্ঠিত হয় জ্ঞানের মেলা নবান্ন পর্ব। আমাদের এই বারের জ্ঞানের মেলা আগের বারের থেকে একটু ভিন্ন ছিল। কিভাবে ভিন্ন ছিল সেটা নিয়েই আজকে বলবো। 

জ্ঞানের মেলার বেশ কিছুদিন আগে আমাদের উত্তরপাড়ার শাহানারা আপারা একটি ছোট নবান্নের শীতের পিঠা উৎসব আয়োজন করে। শাহানারা আপারা তাদের স্বপ্নে বলেছিল তারা এমন একটি পরিবেশ দিতে চায় যেখানে শিশুদের যেখানে তারা হেঁসে খেলে সুন্দরভাবে বেড়ে উঠতে পারবে। তাই তারা তাদের শিশুদের নবান্নের একটি সুন্দর স্মৃতি দেওয়ার জন্য এই শীতের পিঠা উৎসবের আয়োজন করে। তারা হিজলীপাড়ার দাদাদাদী ও বাবামায়েদের ও আমন্ত্রণ করে।

শাহানারা আপারা নতুন ধানের চাল দিয়ে তিন রকমের পিঠা বানায় অতিথিদের জন্য। আর আমাদের হিজলিপাড়ার দাদীরা এবং মায়েরা তাদের উপহার হিসেবে দেয় একটি গল্পের আসর। শিশুরা তাদের মন মতো নাচ করার পরিবেশ পায়। এরপরই তারা চিন্তা করে চাইলেই তারা ব্যাসপুর গ্রামের অন্যান্য সব টিমের মানুষদের নিয়ে একটি জ্ঞানের মেলার আয়োজন করতে পারে। যেখানে সবাই সবার অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করবে, শিশুরা তাদের মেধাবিকাশের সুযোগ পাবে। সেই থেকেই এইবারের জ্ঞানের মেলা। আর যেহেতু শীতের দিন তাই তারা নতুন ধানের শীতের পিঠা দিয়ে সবাইকে বরণ করতে চায়। তাই এই এই মেলার নাম হয়েছে জ্ঞানের মেলা: নবান্ন পর্ব। বুঝতেই পারছেন পুরোটা প্রোগ্রাম এর চিন্তা তাদের স্বপ্ন থেকে এসেছে।   

শুধু যে মেলার চিন্তা এসেছে এমন না, মেলাটা কোথায় হবে, কিভাবে সাজালে ভালো হবে, কি দিয়ে আপ্যায়ন করবে সেটাও তারা ঠিক করেছে। মেলার ঠিক আগের দিন থেকেই তারা জায়গা পরিষ্কার করেছে, স্টেজ সাজিয়েছে, তেরেঙ্গা বানিয়েছে, হাড়ি রং করেছে। ম্যাস্কিউলিনিটি টিম ও তাদের সাহায্য করেছে। শাহানারা আপারা আগের দিন ২০৫ জন অতিথির জন্য পিঠা বানিয়েছে নতুন ধানের চাল দিয়ে।

আমি কারো মুখে একটা উফ শব্দ শুনিনি। ওনারা নিজেরাই বের করছিল কি কি লাগবে, কি কি আগে থেকে করে রাখতে হবে। আমার মনে হচ্ছিল আমরা অতিথি হিসেবে গিয়েছি। এর আগের নলেজ ফেয়ারে আমাদের অনেক দৌড় ঝাপ করতে হয়েছিল। কিন্তু এবার আমি দেখলাম আমাদের কিছু করতে হচ্ছেনা, সব তারাই করে ফেলছে। 

আমি বুঝলাম কমিউনিটি যখন কোন কিছু নিজের মনে করে, সেটার জন্য তারা মন প্রাণ ঢেলে দেয়। এই জ্ঞানের মেলাটাও তাদের, তাদের নিজেদের। তাই তারা এতো আপন ভেবে সব কিছু নিজ থেকে করছে। কত পার্থক্য আমাদের আগের নলেজ ফেয়ার থেকে!!! সামনের বার থেকে হয়তো আমরা না গেলেও ওনারা খুব সুন্দর একটা জ্ঞানের মেলার আয়োজন করে ফেলতে পারবে।  

আরেকটা সুন্দর জিনিস ছিল- আমাদের আগের নলেজ ফেয়ারে যেসব গ্রপ ছিল, এবারও তারা ছিল। কিন্তু অনেক বড় পরিসরে দলে সদস্য সংখ্যা বেশি। এ থেকে বুঝা যায়, কমিউনিটি এখনো তাদের কাজ গুলো ভালোবেসে ধরে রেখেছে এবং তাদের সেই কাজের সাথে যোগ দিচ্ছে নতুন নতুন মানুষ, নতুন নতুন মুখ। বুঝলাম যে মানুষ যখন কোন কিছু ভালোবেসে করে সেটাই ধরে রাখে বছরের পর বছর, কারন কাজটা তাদের নিজেদের।   

এই জ্ঞানের মেলার পরপরই অনেক মায়েরা আমাদের অ্যাক্টিভ টিমদের সাথে কাজ করতে চায়, আমাদের ইনভাইট করেছে তাদের কমিউনিটিতে যেতে, তাদের সাথে সল্ট করতে। হিজলীপাড়ার মানুষ চাচ্ছে সামনের বছরের জ্ঞানের মেলা যেন তারা আয়োজন করে। এই রিফ্লেকশনগুলো শুনে আমার মনে হলো আমাদের জ্ঞানের মেলার সার্থকতা হয়তো এখানেই।

On 15 December, the Knowledge Fair: Nobanno Porbo was held in UttarPara of Byaspur village, organized by the people of the Byaspur community. This year’s Knowledge Fair was a little different from the previous one. Today, I want to talk about how it was different.

A few days before the Knowledge Fair, Shahanara Apu and her team from UttarPara organized a small winter pitha festival for Nobanno. They shared in their dream that they want to create a space where children can grow up happily, laughing and playing freely. With this dream, they arranged the winter pitha festival so that the children could have a beautiful memory of Nobanno. They invited grandparents and parents from Hijlipara as well.

Shahanara Apu and her team made three types of pitha using new rice for the guests. In return, the grandmothers and mothers from Hijlipara gifted everyone a storytelling session. The children got a space where they could dance freely and happily. After that, they started thinking that if they wanted, they could organize a Knowledge Fair with people from all the teams of Byaspur village, where everyone could share experiences and children could get opportunities to develop their talents. That is how this year’s Knowledge Fair began.

Since it was winter, they wanted to welcome everyone with winter pitha made from new rice. That is why the fair was named Knowledge Fair: Nobanno Porbo. As you can understand, the whole idea of the program came from their dream.

Not only the idea of the fair, but they also decided where it would be held, how it would be decorated, and what food would be served. From the day before the fair, they cleaned the place, decorated the stage, made tirenga, and painted clay pots. The Masculinity team also helped them. The day before the fair, they prepared pitha for 205 guests using new rice.

I did not hear a single word of complaint from anyone. They planned everything themselves—what was needed and what had to be done in advance. It felt like we were guests there. In the previous Knowledge Fair, we had to run around and do many things. But this time, we did not have to do anything. They handled everything on their own.

I realized that when a community feels something is their own, they give their whole heart to it. This Knowledge Fair was theirs—completely their own. That is why they did everything with so much care and love. There was such a big difference from our previous Knowledge Fair. Maybe next time, even if we do not go, they will still be able to organize a beautiful Knowledge Fair on their own.

Another beautiful thing was that the groups from our previous Knowledge Fair were also present this time, but on a much larger scale, with more members. This shows that the community still loves and holds on to their work, and new people are joining with new energy and new faces. I understood that when people do something with love, they keep it alive for years, because the work belongs to them.

After the Knowledge Fair, many mothers expressed interest in working with our active teams. They invited us to their communities and asked us to do SALT sessions with them. The people of Hijlipara want to organize next year’s Knowledge Fair themselves. Hearing all these reflections, I felt that maybe this is where the true success of our Knowledge Fair lies.
