Belonging to a simple family, I was fortunate to grow up in a wise, and supportive environment that nurtured values of kindness and service. These values encouraged me to join Peace For People with the purpose of serving those in need. Over the years, our team has been dedicated to bring positive change in rural Nepal, particularly in the areas of education and sports. While working in these communities, I was often confronted with the harsh realities faced by students—circumstances far beyond what I had ever imagined. Yet, with the continuous support of GFC for several years we have been able to bring smiles to many faces, and for that, I remain sincerely grateful.
I am privileged to work once again with GFC, this time under a new module: the community-led approach "SALT"—an abbreviation for Support, Appreciate, Learn, and Transform. I had the opportunity to participate in a three-day session "SAMANDHA BISTAR" that proved to be both insightful and transformative.
The session provided a platform to learn from experienced professionals representing five different organizations. Their knowledge, experiences, diverse perspectives and enriched discussions. Despite our varied backgrounds, the training inspired us to unite around a common goal—strengthening communities through collective effort. This convergence of ideas and commitment was a powerful reminder of the strength that lies in collaboration as one strong cohort.
One of the most impactful activities during the session was the exercise of spending twenty minutes with an unfamiliar participant. This simple yet meaningful practice of sharing personal stories and listening attentively helped cultivate trust, empathy, and mutual respect. It reinforced the importance of listening not only as a skill but as a foundation for genuine human connection.
Another key outcome of the session was the emphasis on planning to turn shared dreams into reality. For me, the SALT approach underscored the importance of communities becoming self-led and self-driven. By supporting, appreciating, and learning from one another, communities can transform themselves from within—creating sustainable change that lasts beyond external interventions.
This experience restate my belief that true transformation is possible when communities are empowered to lead their own journeys. The SALT approach has not only broadened my perspective but has also strengthened my commitment working for rural communities with renewed purpose and dedication.

It's true that SALT has not only broaden our perspective but also strengthened our commitment!❤️
Am glad to read your reflection, Bijay. What will you do differently now? Thank you
