Introduction:
Transparency has different definitions linguistically, literally, dictionary wise, socially, traditionally, and sometimes based on a specific context say like in Community Life Competence Process (CLCP). Herein we attempt to give all these definitions; acknowledging that the list is incomplete, as other definitions could be present. Further, we attempt to explain how the meaning of Transparency in a CLCP team, is quite different from the meaning it has in financials and accounts which is only a minor portion say 5 % of the new inclusive definition of 100% transparency.

Definitions of Transparency:

  1. Linguistic Definition
Transparency linguistically refers to clarity in communication or expression. It denotes the quality of being easily understood or comprehended, without ambiguity.

  2. Literal Definition
Literally, transparency is the property of allowing light to pass through so objects behind can be clearly seen, as in a glass window or clear water.

  3. Dictionary Definition
Dictionary definitions often state transparency as the quality of being open to scrutiny, free of deceit, or the state of being easily visible or accessible.

  4. Social Definition
Socially, transparency refers to openness, accountability, and the willingness to share information, whether in governance, relationships, or community interactions. It’s often linked to trust and integrity.

  5. Traditional Definition
In traditional contexts, transparency may align with honesty and straightforwardness in personal and communal dealings, reflecting long-held societal values.

  6. Contextual Definition (CLCP)
In the Community Life Competence Process (CLCP), transparency takes on a deeper, multifaceted meaning. It encompasses open communication, inclusivity, accountability, and the active sharing of reasoning behind decisions and actions within the community. Unlike financial transparency, which focuses on accounts and budgets, CLCP transparency prioritizes relationships, mutual understanding, and shared learning.

  7. Financial and Accounting Definition
In financial and accounting contexts, transparency refers to the openness and clarity of financial reporting. It ensures stakeholders can see, verify, and understand financial data, often linked to regulatory compliance and ethical business practices.

Transparency in CLCP vs. Financial Transparency

In the CLCP team, transparency emphasizes creating an open and inclusive environment where community members actively participate in decision-making, share their thoughts, and understand the reasoning behind collective actions. It involves fostering trust, ensuring that all voices are heard, and facilitating shared accountability for outcomes.

This is distinct from financial transparency, which pertains to accurate, honest reporting of monetary transactions. Financial transparency represents only a minor aspect of the broader CLCP definition of transparency. In this model, financial clarity constitutes merely 5% of the new inclusive 100% transparency standard. The broader focus is on openness in relationships, interactions, feedback, and shared goals.

Example of 100% Transparency in Rewards

Under the 100% transparency principle, a system might require that when a community member "likes" a post or activity (indicated by the 👌 icon), they must provide a reason for their "like." This reason could be selected from a dropdown list of pre-defined options, such as:

  • "Insightful"
  • "Helpful"
  • "Inspiring"
  • "Others" (requiring a detailed explanation).

If the member selects "Others," they would be prompted to type a reason. An algorithm in the app would then evaluate this input to determine its genuineness. Only after this validation would the XP reward point be credited to the post or activity on the leaderboard.

This process ensures clarity in why rewards are given and fosters accountability for participation, aligning with the broader concept of 100% transparency in CLCP.

Disclaimer

It is crucial to emphasize that transparency, as discussed in this document, does not imply or suggest any inadequacy or shortcoming in financial or accounting practices within the CLCP framework over the past two decades. Financial transparency has been and continues to be upheld with diligence and integrity.

The broader definition of transparency presented here reflects an evolving commitment to inclusivity, openness, and active participation in community life, transcending the limited scope of financial disclosure.
