Transforming Communities: A Story of Resilience and Hope In 2016, our community faced a stark reality: only 20 toilets serving 700 households. It was a place where the prevalence of diseases like dysentery and severe diarrhoea cast a shadow over daily life.

As a newcomer to the area, I was struck by the challenges and the urgent need for change. However, amidst these hardships, our community, blessed with abundant natural resources yet lacking essential skills, stood resilient. Determined to make a difference, we embarked on a journey of education and empowerment. We started by teaching the importance of sanitation, beginning with the basics—constructing latrines using materials as humble as trees and mud.

Through collective effort and a commitment to innovation, we witnessed remarkable progress. Over time, 680 toilets were built, each one symbolizing a step towards a healthier and more dignified life. We embraced appropriate technology and utilized local resources efficiently, ensuring affordability and sustainability in our approach. Today, I am grateful to share that our community is transformed. What was once a place of despair is now a beacon of hope. The journey was challenging, but through perseverance and a shared vision, we have made a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. I am Moses Himakanta, representing the eastern part of Zambia, Vubwi. This is not just our story—it is a testament to the power of community, resilience, and the transformative impact of addressing fundamental needs.
