Udaan 2012- life-skill contest through dance concludes at Red Ribbon Club Govt Polytechnic Kangra

Udaan 2012- life-skill contest through dance concludes at Red Ribbon Club Govt Polytechnic Kangra under Youth Day Campaign on HIV. International Youth Day campaign concluded with UDAAN 2012 at Govt Polytechnic Kangra. Dr RK Sood DAPO Kangra stated that the contest aimed to empower youth with knowledge, skills, resources & opportunities to enhance life-skills, so that youth can take informed & responsible healthy choices. This will play an important role in creating enabling environment for Achievement of three Zeros- Zero New Infections among youth, Zero Discrimination and Zero Deaths among people living with HIV. Participants from leading Red Ribbon Clubs throughout Kangra showcased their talent and learnt from peers. The participants presented their dance performance, followed by delivering a message on Youth issues including life-skills for prevention of drug abuse and HIV, and answered questions regarding GK/ Health Knowledge/ Personality & Attitude. The first prize was bagged by Shipla from Gian Jyoti, followed by Ranjana from Polytechnic Kangra and Diksha from Guru Dronacharya college nursing was ranked third. Presentations of Rashmi & Arti from Maa Kamakshi Nursning college Was wazia and Sikandra from Dronachaya College. In the boys category- Rahul from Kshatriya College was topper, and Rishi from Gian Gyoti was second and Sidharth from droanchary rait won the third prize. All participants in the event organised under international youth campaign were pinned a Red Ribbon, the most widely recognized symbol of the AIDS movement - the symbol of unity, courage and determination to get nearer to the zero infection target. Chief Guest KR Bharti DC Kangra addressing the youth, shared that Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) is being adopted as a means to empower young people in challenging situations. LSBE refers to an interactive process of teaching and learning which enables learners to acquire knowledge and to develop attitudes and skills which support the adoption of healthy behaviours. Dr RK Sood DAPO Kangra stated that performing art enriches life skills- which minimizes the vulnerability of Youth and involves them in creative expression. Performing art is a way to release stress and frustrations, similarly it a mode of creativity and constructive thought. It adds to stamina, mental agility and presence of mind, and physical agility among youth, and enhance personality through non-verbal communication skills to express the views, emotions, and through body language in form of dance. The life-skills enable youth to resist peer pressure and confidently say no to negative influences. Principal of the polytechnic college Kangra Sh RK Sharma who presided over the event, stated that the infotainment approach for HIV prevention is unique and click with the generation-Y. District Health officer Dr Jitendera Saxena shared about scheme to promote health of youth like Mukhyamantri Vidayrthi Yojna, Anemia free scheme. Adolescent Reproductive health Services & Red Ribbon Clubs. Motto of the youth in modern era should be “Be Smart- protect yourself”. Youth of Dronacharya College of Nursing Yol presented a kit on HIV prevention. Peer educators said that “recognising the role frank & open discussions can help in addressing the problem of HIV & AIDS among the youth; we promote dialogue among young people so that they are empowered with life-skills to protect themselves against STI, HIV & AIDS”. Droanchaya College of Nursing Yol was awarded special trophy for skit on HIV prevention. Nodal officer of Dronacharya Red ribbon Club, Vividh Red ribbon Club shred about their experiences and use of technology to improve reach of messages. The event was also attended by Dr Virendra Kaul Nodal officer national health programmes at Rajiv Gandhi Ayurvedic College Paprola, Sh Virendra Cahudhary MD Gian Jyoti College of Education, Nodal Officers of the Red Ribbon Clubs. Dr RK Sood DAPO shared that the youth peer educators will be further empowered with enhanced knowledge and skills through trainings on ten commitments at Nurpur/ Palampur and Kangra to further build momentum.
