Transforming Jeevika: The Impact of SALT Conversations on Organizational Culture

At Jeevika, the introduction of SALT (Support, Stimulate; Appreciate; Listen, Learn, Link; and Team, Transfer) conversations at the organizational level has sparked significant transformation in how staff members communicate, collaborate, and work together. A total of 156 SALT conversations were undertaken with the involvement of office staff and other facilitators, and the initial results have been nothing short of impressive. These conversations have fostered a dynamic shift in the workplace culture, driving positive change that enhances both individual growth and organizational performance.

A Safe and Supportive Environment: One of the most noticeable outcomes of the SALT conversations, has been the creation of a safe and supportive platform for staff to openly share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. Before the introduction of SALT, communication at Jeevika was often limited to formal channels, leaving little room for candid conversations or expressing personal perspectives. However, SALT facilitated an environment where staff members could speak freely, knowing that their input would be valued and respected.

This open forum for discussion has significantly shifted the dynamics among staff members. Individuals who were once reserved or hesitant to engage in dialogues are now more comfortable sharing their viewpoints. The resulting transparency has laid the foundation for a more positive atmosphere within the organization—one that encourages collaboration and mutual respect.

Strengthening Trust and Collaboration: Trust is the bedrock of any successful organization, and the SALT conversations have played a crucial role in building this essential element at Jeevika. As staff members engaged in the SALT framework—Support, Stimulate, Appreciate, Listen, Learn, Link, Team, and Transfer—trust was naturally nurtured. By consistently appreciating one another's contributions, actively listening, and learning from each other, staff began to develop stronger, more genuine relationships.

This newfound trust has led to a surge in collaboration among team members. Individuals are now more likely to seek out colleagues for input, share information, and approach problem-solving as a collective effort. This shift toward a more collaborative mindset has been instrumental in increasing productivity and fostering innovation. The ability to work cohesively has also contributed to an overall improvement in morale, as staff members feel more connected and supported in their roles.

Transparent and Inclusive Communication: A key aspect of the SALT framework is its emphasis on communication—both in terms of listening and sharing. The conversations at Jeevika have set a new tone for how staff members interact with one another. Gone are the days of hierarchical, one-way communication; in its place is a culture of active listening and open exchange.

Staff are now more inclined to engage in constructive dialogues, seeking to understand others' perspectives before offering their own. This shift has created an atmosphere of inclusivity, where everyone feels heard and valued. The result is a more transparent organization, where information flows freely and decisions are made with input from diverse voices.

Bridging and Building Gaps: Before the SALT conversations, some gaps existed between different teams and departments at Jeevika. These gaps often resulted in misunderstandings and a lack of coordination. However, the SALT framework has proven to be an effective tool for bridging these divides. Although this doesn’t guarantee the elimination of the communication gap, it surely minimizes the instances. Through regular conversations focused on listening, learning, and linking, staff members have better understood one another’s roles, challenges, and contributions.

As a result, the organization is becoming more cohesive. Team members are no longer working in silos but are instead collaborating across departments, exchanging best practices, and problem-solving together. This synergy has laid the groundwork for more effective organizational functioning, with a greater focus on shared goals and collective success.

Well, to conclude I will say that the impact of SALT conversations at Jeevika has been profound, bringing about lasting changes in the way we communicate, collaborate, and relate with one another. The shift in dynamics and trust is not just a one-time outcome; rather, it is the beginning of a sustained transformation in organizational culture. These changes are creating an environment where we feel empowered, supported, and encouraged to contribute our best ideas and efforts. With these improvements in place, Jeevika is better positioned to face future challenges, collaborate more effectively, and continue its mission of creating positive social impact not only across Jeevika's community but also in the Development sector.
