On the morning of the 6th of June, a project inception meeting was held in Byaspur, Gopalganj at Jaynagar High School by Grow Your Reader Foundation

On the morning of June 6th, Byaspur village in Gopalganj hosted a project inception meeting at Jaynagar High School. This meeting was organized by Grow Your Reader Foundation (GYRF), with funding from the Global Fund for Children. GYRF aims to improve children's education and community well-being through changes in the school ecosystem and the community's mindset. A total 0f 106 participants joined the meeting. 

GYRF introduced the SALT approach, which stands for Support-Stimulate, Appreciate, Listen-Learn-Link, and Transfer-Team. This community-led method helps people take ownership of their challenges, learn from each other, and find sustainable solutions.

Before the meeting, GYRF conducted a baseline survey in Byaspur. The findings were shared through a traditional musical performance called Jarigan, presented by the community youth and students of Jaynagar High School. After the performance, attendees discussed solutions to the problems identified in the survey.

শোনেন শোনেন গ্রামবাসী, শোনেন দিয়া মন।

আমাদের গ্রামের কথা করিব বর্ণন।

সুখে শান্তিতে আমরা করি বসবাস

কিন্তু এখানে আছে অনেক সমস্যার আবাস।

কি ভাইসব জানতে চান কি কি সেই সমস্যা?

একেক করে আমরা এখন করিব বর্ণনা

আশা রাখি আপনারা সবাই শুনবেন মন দিয়া।

গানের শেষে আমরা করিব আলোচনা

সবাই মিলে বের করবো সমস্যার সমাধা।

কি ভাইসব সবাই মিলে সমাধান করবো তো?

খালি চোখে মনে হয় সব ঠিকঠাক

কিন্তু আসলে আছে অনেক উন্নতির বাঁক।

প্রাইমারী স্কুলে শিশুরা শিখছে না ভালো করে

জানে না তারা কিভাবে বাংলা ইংরেজি রিডিং পড়ে।

পড়তে না পারার কারনে তারা যখন বড় ক্লাসে পায় প্রমোশন

তখন আর করে না স্কুলে আসার ইচ্ছে পোষণ।

তখন কি কি হয় জানতে চান আপনারা??????????

বাবা মায়েরা তখন খোঁজে মেয়ের জামাই

টাকা পয়সার অভাবের দেয় হরেক রকম দোহাই।

কিন্তু এটা কি আসলে টাকাপয়সার সমস্যা নাকি অন্য কিছু বলেন তো সবাই একটু।

ছেলেরা না স্কুলে গিয়ে মিশে অসৎ সঙ্গে

মাদকের নেশায় যাচ্ছে জীবন উচ্ছন্নে।

আরো কি কি হয় জানতে চান?

সময় কাটায় তারা মোবাইল ফোনে

গেমের নেশায় তারা কারো কথা না শোনে।

বাবা মায়ের অসচেতনা, আরো বড় একটি কারণ

পরিবারের মাঝে এখন দূরত্ব যোজন যোজন।

মেয়েদের আমরা দিচ্ছি না সমান অধিকার

পিছিয়ে থাকছে তারা, হচ্ছে অনাচার।

গ্রামের সব সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় গুটিকয়েক মানুষ

সমস্যার চিরস্থায়ী দেখি না চাক্ষুষ।

তাই এখনি না যদি আমরা করি সমাধান

আমাদের সামনে বাঁধা পাহাড় সমান।

হাতে হাত ধরে নারী পুরুষ নির্বিশেষে

সামনে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে গ্রামকে বাঁচাতে।

Listen, listen fellow villagers, listen with attention,

Going to tell you about our village's mention.

Although we live in peace in here,

But many problems also live in here with us, so clear.

Folks, don’t we want to know what those problems are?

We will describe one by one cordially

Hope you all will listen carefully

Discussions will be held after the song

Together we will find solutions that last long

Folks, won’t we solve them together?

Though all may seem well, to the naked eye,

There's much to mend, beneath the sky.

Children falter in primary schools, it's true,

Struggling with Bangla, and English too.

Promoted to senior class, yet their zeal begins to fade,

The classroom's allure starts to degrade.

Do you want to know what happens then?

Parents seek groom for their daughters

Excuses regarding lack of money are on the offers

But everyone please say, is it really a problem regarding money or is it something else?

Boys wander astray, in shadows they stray,

Lost to addictions, their futures betray.

What else do you want to happen?

They drown in mobile phones, their minds ensnared,

Ignoring counsel, their senses impaired.

Parents' neglect widens the rift,

Families fractured, spirits adrift.

We don’t give girls equal right

They lag behind, anomie at sight

Decisions of village, made by a select few,

Leaving solutions distant, out of view.

If we fail to act, our village's fate in peril,

A mountainous obstacle, a daunting herald.

Together we stand, male or female, hand in hand,

To save our village, united we band.

The meeting was attended by the Union Chairman, SMC community president, other SMC members, the Principal of Jaynagar High School, teachers, students, other institutional heads, and parents. I on behalf of GYRF explained why this approach was chosen for the project.

Our facilitator Manira apa shared the survey methodology and her SALT experiences. Other GYRF officials were also present.
