Pritam Rauth, a 36-year-old young man, resides in the Bhatpara Basa Line area of Kalchini Block, West Bengal. During a SALT session, he shared the proudest story of his life, which is a vivid example of selfless support.

Several years ago, Pritam worked on making Aadhaar cards. In his village, there were 10 poor children and 4 elderly people whose families didn't even have the money required for Aadhaar card fees. Due to financial hardship, these people were deprived of government schemes. But Pritam didn't give up. He invested his valuable time and resources to make Aadhaar cards for these 10 children and 4 elderly people for free. Without charging any fee, he not only solved their documentation problem but also showed these families a new path to self-reliance.

This story reveals the strength within Pritam—the power to serve selflessly, the sensitivity to make the pain of the poor his own, and the firm resolve to change society!

As a SALT facilitator, I learned from him—that true leadership awakens when we dedicate our resources to those in need.

Pritam ji spoke beautifully about the community. He said that in the community, we are all complementary to each other. Every person in the village is an integral part of the community. If everyone understands this, there would be no problems in our community at all.

In today's time, everyone should come together. But people get so busy with their own work that they don't even have time to think about the community. If we stand with each other in the community—no matter what the problem—every difficulty becomes easy.

He also expressed concern about the drug problem. The tendency towards addiction is increasing in the community. Earlier, there was a little alcohol during cultural events, but now it has become an addiction. Today, 3-4 families are addicted to alcohol every day, which is taking our society in the wrong direction.

We must tackle this problem together so that our community becomes strong and healthy!

What went well in today's conversation and why?

Pritam ji said that people don't come with such thinking towards the community—everyone just thinks about themselves. In today's discussion, understanding the community and sharing perspectives on various problems felt great to him. In busy life, someone asked about his well-being and created an atmosphere where he could openly share his thoughts. Also, whatever he said was listened to attentively, which made him feel really good.

What could we have done better in today's conversation?

Pritam ji suggested: "See, we are talking about the community, but there are other people in the community too. We should sit with them and think together. Their suggestions make it easier to find new ways."
