জ্ঞানের মেলা: কমিউনিটির উদ্যোগে এক অনন্য অভিজ্ঞতা -Knowledge Fair: A Unique Community-Led Experience

১৫ ডিসেম্বর, Alokito Kori টিম আমরা আমাদের কমিউনিটিকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলাম গোপালগঞ্জের বেসপুর কমিউনিটিতে। GYRF এবং Global Fund for Children–এর সহযোগিতায় বেসপুর কমিউনিটির নিজ উদ্যোগে আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল একটি ব্যতিক্রমধর্মী Knowledge Fair, যার নাম দেওয়া হয়েছিল “জ্ঞানের মেলা”।

এই যাত্রায় আমাদের মুন্সিগঞ্জ কমিউনিটি থেকে অংশ নেয় মনিমালা। তার সুরক্ষা (safeguarding) বিষয়টি বিবেচনা করে আমরা সঙ্গে নিয়েছিলাম মনিমালার মাকেও। পাশাপাশি নারায়ণগঞ্জ কমিউনিটি থেকে যোগ দেয় তিনজন কিশোর-কিশোরী। ভিন্ন ভিন্ন কমিউনিটির মানুষের একসাথে অংশগ্রহণ এই আয়োজনকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করে তোলে।

মেলার শুরুতেই পিঠা ও ফুল দিয়ে আমাদের উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা জানানো হয়। বিশেষ বিষয় ছিল—এই পিঠাগুলো সম্পূর্ণভাবে কমিউনিটির সদস্যদের নিজ হাতে তৈরি। এর মধ্য দিয়ে স্পষ্টভাবে ফুটে ওঠে community-led initiative, যা পুরো আয়োজনের প্রাণ হয়ে ছিল।

গ্রাম্য পরিবেশে খুব সুন্দরভাবে সাজানো এই মেলাটি ছিল চোখ জুড়ানো। বেসপুর কমিউনিটির সদস্যরা নিজেদের জীবনের গল্প শেয়ার করেন, আর সেই গল্পগুলো থেকে শুধু আমরা নই—আমাদের কমিউনিটির সদস্যরাও নতুন করে শেখার সুযোগ পাই। বাস্তব জীবনের অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে শেখার এই সুযোগ ছিল সত্যিই অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ক।

গল্প শেয়ারের পাশাপাশি ছিল নাচ, গান এবং শিশুদের জন্য শিয়ালের গল্প। শিশুরা এসব কার্যক্রমে ভীষণ আনন্দ পেয়েছে। এছাড়াও শিশু ও বড়দের জন্য আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল বিভিন্ন খেলাধুলা—যেমন হাড়িভাঙা, বস্তা দৌড় ইত্যাদি। শিশুদের হাসি আর অংশগ্রহণ পুরো মেলাটিকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তুলেছিল।

এই পুরো আয়োজন থেকে আমি একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় শিখেছি—একটি Knowledge Fair ঠিক তখনই সফল হয়, যখন কমিউনিটি গর্ব করে বলতে পারে, “এটা আমাদের আয়োজন।” বেসপুর কমিউনিটির এই মেলা ঠিক তেমনই ছিল।

আমাদের কমিউনিটির পক্ষ থেকে মনিমালার যে গল্পটি সবচেয়ে ভালো লেগেছে, তা হলো কমিউনিটির উদ্যোগে পানি ফিল্টার তৈরির গল্প। কারণ মুন্সিগঞ্জ কমিউনিটিতে অনেক মানুষ নৌকায় বসবাস করেন এবং বাধ্য হয়ে নদীর পানি পান করেন, যা স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য অত্যন্ত ক্ষতিকর। এই গল্প আমাদের নতুনভাবে ভাবতে শিখিয়েছে এবং অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে।

সব মিলিয়ে, এই জ্ঞানের মেলা Alokito Kori টিম ও আমাদের কমিউনিটির জন্য ছিল একটি অসাধারণ, শিক্ষণীয় ও হৃদয়ছোঁয়া অভিজ্ঞতা। এমন আয়োজন আমাদের শেখায়—জ্ঞান শুধু বইয়ে নয়, কমিউনিটির অভিজ্ঞতা ও গল্পের মধ্যেও লুকিয়ে থাকে।

On 15 December, as the Alokito Kori team, we visited the Bespur community in Gopalganj together with members of our own communities. With the support of GYRF and Global Fund for Children, the Bespur community organized a unique Knowledge Fair, aptly named “Gyaner Mela” (Knowledge Fair), entirely through their own initiative.

From our Munshiganj community, Monimala participated in this visit. Considering safeguarding issues, we also brought Monimala’s mother along with us. In addition, three adolescents joined from the Narayanganj community. The participation of people from different communities made the event even more enriching and meaningful.

At the very beginning of the fair, we were warmly welcomed with traditional pitha and flowers. What made this gesture truly special was that all the pitha were handmade by the community members themselves. This clearly reflected the spirit of a community-led initiative, which became the heart and soul of the entire event.

Set beautifully in a rural environment, the fair was a delight to the eyes. Members of the Bespur community shared stories from their own lives, and through these stories, not only we but also our community members gained new learnings. This opportunity to learn from real-life experiences was truly inspiring.

Alongside storytelling, the fair included dance, songs, and traditional folktales for children, such as the story of the fox. Children thoroughly enjoyed these activities. There were also various games arranged for both children and adults, including pot-breaking and sack races. The laughter and active participation of the children brought vibrant energy to the entire fair.

From this whole experience, I learned one important lesson: a Knowledge Fair becomes truly successful when the community can proudly say, “This is our own initiative.” The Knowledge Fair of the Bespur community was exactly that.

Among all the stories, the one that impressed us most from our community was the story of building a water filter through community initiative. In the Munshiganj community, many people live on boats and are often forced to drink river water, which is extremely harmful to their health. This story encouraged us to think differently and inspired us to explore similar solutions in our own context.

Overall, this Knowledge Fair was an extraordinary, educational, and deeply touching experience for the Alokito Kori team and our communities. Such initiatives remind us that knowledge does not only exist in books, but also lives within the experiences and stories of communities.
