Jai’s Story: Friendship, Service, and the Power of Community

A few days ago, I had the chance to meet a 27-year-old young man, Jai Chik Baraik, from the Basa Line area of Bhatpara Tea Garden. What followed was a truly enriching SALT conversation—a dialogue that allowed Jai to share his story of pride, values, and vision for his community.

A Heart Always Ready to Help

Jai spoke with remarkable enthusiasm and confidence about his commitment to help others. He shared how one of his closest friends had moved to Delhi for work, leaving his family behind in the village. Whenever that family faced a crisis—whether it was illness or another problem—they always turned to Jai.

It didn’t matter if it was midnight at 12 or 1 a.m.; Jai would rush to their side without hesitation. From taking family members to the hospital to supporting household functions, he was there—present, dependable, and deeply involved. This instinct to serve, without expecting anything in return, shines as a true example of friendship and human compassion.

Strength That Comes From Community

As we continued the conversation, Jai shared a powerful belief: if a community stays strong and united, solutions to any problem emerge naturally. For him, regular dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity are the real strength of a village.
