If you have been following the news, Nigeria has been trending in terms of suicide and kidnapping
In the past three weeks, more than 20 people have committed suicide and the number keeps increasing everyday. Nigerians are very strong people with so much energy to build resilience against any form of threat, but today we losing all that.
Causes of occurrence have ranged from Depression, Poverty, Retrenchment at work, Poor academic performance, sickness e.t.c. Two weeks ago, a medical doctor ask the driver to pullover beside a lake and jumped into the river killing himself.
Just today a man committed suicide leaving behind the wife and six children and another lady committed suicide because she couldn't bear children after 8yrs of been married. So much pressure everywhere.
Last week The Salvation Army Nigeria went into the community mobilizing people to a focus group discussion. All of this happened in all the communities where Salvation Army exist and not less than 5 thousand people where reached.
We used SALT Methodology to facilitate the discussion; Decision Making, Resource Mobilization, Seeking for appropriate help when need be (Counselor, Psychologist e.t.c), Having multiple skills, Depression and Child Abuse.
F.E.A.R has two meaning; Forget Everything And Run OR Face Everything And Rise. Some of the notable quote used during the discussion "Challenges Are What Make Life Interesting And Overcoming Them Is What Makes Life Meaningful", Another Quote; "Pushing Yourself To Take Simple Actions Creates A Chain Reaction In Your Confidence And Productivity".
Community members where tasked to work effortlessly with planned goals, including making informed decision while Support each other to grow, Appreciating their existing skills, Learning from previous shortcomings/Linking themselves to new opportunities and Taking action.
We hope for a better society where we all come together to support each other.
