Empowering Education: Implementing SALT Principles for Positive Change

Greetings! My name is Razin Mahmud Khan, and I currently hold the position of Junior Coordinator at the After School Program called "School Er Baire Shekha," which operates under the Grow Your Reader Foundation in Jashore, Bangladesh.

 

I have undergone three SALT training sessions facilitated by Ritu, Shahnawaz, and my supervisor, Sadia Jafrin. Sadia apu initially introduced the SALT approach to us. Additionally, we participated in a follow-up session where we collectively formulated our shared dream, identified actionable steps, and evaluated our progress. Throughout these sessions, I engaged in a total of four SALT conversations with my colleagues. These interactions provided valuable insights into my colleagues' interests, preferences, points of view, and personalities. SALT has profoundly reshaped my perspective on interpersonal communication and problem-solving within both group and individual contexts. Its outcomes have been immediately evident and impactful.

 

Before participating in SALT sessions, I had limited knowledge about my colleague, Amrin Islam Autoshi, who holds the position of Senior Coordinator. However, through our personal storytelling exchanges during SALT sessions, my perception of her underwent a significant transformation. I now possess a deeper understanding of her emotions and motivations, enabling me to anticipate her actions and decisions in various situations. It's remarkable how SALT fosters spiritual connections among individuals, even those previously unfamiliar to one another.

 

Furthermore, I experienced great satisfaction during my visits to students' homes, where I effectively captured the attention of their parents. By acknowledging the positive efforts and achievements of their children and highlighting the correlation between parental involvement and academic performance, I was able to inspire parents to become more proactive in their roles. Previously, parent meetings had often devolved into complaint sessions, leading to feelings of neglect among parents. SALT methodologies have equipped us with the tools to transform these interactions into opportunities for mutual learning and empowerment.

 

I am genuinely grateful to SALT for the invaluable insights and strategies it has provided. Moving forward, we are committed to implementing additional SALT principles in our school to promote accountability and empowerment among all stakeholders.
