We celebrated children's day last week with our kids. Their parents/ care takers and care givers were with them .
It was half day with our kids.It was an oportunity for them to express what they are and enjoy. It was mainly aimed at making the ART center more child friendly and improve the quality of the adherence.
51 kids joined us on that day ,All of them presented some thing or other on the stage--- songs, dances, skits, mono act.......Doctors including the professor of pediatrics joined them.
We also had a painting competition in which every one took part . The best part of it was that the crayons were contributed by medical students who are posted in the clinic.
We also arranged classes and discussion between pediatric doctors and parents while kids were busy painting.
A magic show was an added attraction.
The ART clinic was decorated with baloons and the drawings, literary works and around 300 paitings our kids brought during the last 6 months ( remember the adding colors to life initiative)were exhibited.

Every kid was given a prize and momentoes, also stomach full of sweets.
This actually helped not just to make the clinic child friendly but also to know our children more closely and intimately. We believe when we see our patients next time we will be seeing each child as a budding human being with great potentials.
Ms preethakumari and ART MO Dr Kamaljith and nodal officer Dr MA Raveendran took initiative in this and it was possible because of Financial support from Kerala State AIDS control society and some philanthropist.

Dear Rituu,
The discussion was on how to improve the regular visit of children to pediatric OPD. One issue was that the children on ART visit regularly IN ART clinic but stopped visiting the pediatrician . Our pediatricians especially Dr Lathika explained the need to visit them at least once in 3 months and she will be running a weekly clinic
exclusively for this purpose. Also they discussed the issues of mainstreaming HIV care and involving other pediatricians in the care. Also the discussion went on to the issues of disclosure, locally available nutritious foods, management of minor illness ,etc also were discussed.

Dear Dr Ajith,

Thanks for this blog. I liked how everyone from doctors and medical students to parents got engaged in celebrating the Children's Day. What was essence of the discussion between the pediatric doctors and parents?

Welcome to the Communication Action Day group! Look forward to your inputs.

Regards,

Rituu
