Ashadhi Ekadashi is one of the most important religious festivals that is celebrated in Maharashtra. This ceremony is generally held at Pandharpur where a huge number of devotees gather to celebrate the festival. It is a religious procession festival which is held every year during the Aashaadh Shukla paksha. Generally Ekadashi is considered to be coming on each month of the year but the eleventh day of Ashadh is said to be the great Ekadashi which is also called by the name Shayani Ekadashi. During this day the devotees keep fast the whole day and they go walking in huge processions to Pandharpur. People sing chanting hymns of Saint Dyaneshwar and Saint Tukaram to pay their tribute to their God Vitthal. This procession starts in Allandi and ends on Guru Poornima at Pandharpur. This day is considered very pious and people join the yatra not only from Maharashtra but also from other cities as well. Men are dressed in ethnic wears like dhoti and kurta and sing devotional songs during this long journey. It is simply spectacular to see this tradition of Maharashtra which is very colourful and energetic.
The Nandwal village is famous as Prati-Pandharpur. The word "Prati" here means the replica. Prati-Pandharpur is being constructed to give the same look and feel of Pandharpur. At Nandwal village in Karveer taluka, lakhs of devotees attended the darshan of beloved Vithuraya on Ashadhi Ekadashi day. After this Ashadhivari was completed in the extraordinary enthusiasm of the devotees, the cleanliness of the village was completed by collecting the garbage lying on the road from the temple area, Nandwal Fata to Nandwal village.
Lakhs of devotees came to Nandwal on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi. There were hundreds of shops and stalls along the road from Nandwal Phata to the village. So there was wet, dry waste, plastic bags etc. In the cleanliness drive, 2 trolleys of garbage were collected and disposed of. This cleanliness campaign was implemented with the cooperation of Nandwal Gram Panchayat and villagers. A total of 50 people participated in this cleanliness drive.
Sarpanch of the village said that even before such cleaning was done in the village but the participation of people in such a large amount was due to salt. He said in his speech that Avani Sanstha has been very helpful for this village due to which many changes are being made in our village and as a result total 50 people of the village participated in this cleanliness drive.
The people of the village also felt happy after cleaning their village. After the cleaning is done, everyone has a satisfied look on their face. Earlier, only the Gram Panchayat was participating in the village cleanliness drive. If the village is not clean, people used to blame the Gram Panchayat because people thought that the responsibility of the village is only the Gram Panchayat and the Gram Panchayat should do all the work in the village but this time there was a slight change in this and this cleanliness campaign reached the people and people participated in it which is a very happy thing for the Gram Panchayat. There is no doubt that if people continue to participate in every good work, one day this village will surely become happy and ideal.
