Building Trust Through Everyday Conversations

My name is Sagar Pokhrel and I am from Pokhara city. I work as a Community Facilitator in United Community Nepal under the ARC Project. I started this role on April 27. My project area is Aarandada, which is also my community. This journey is very meaningful to me because I’m working in my own community. I’m not just an outsider watching change happen, I’m a member of the community I serve.

From the beginning of my work I have been very closely involved with the community members through household visits and regular interactions. These moments have taught me that real development begins with trust, respect and real human connection. As I have met people in their homes, I have learned to listen to people’s stories and understand their struggles and to appreciate their strength in the face of daily challenges. I have many conversations with members of the community about their experiences of working with me and these conversations shape my understanding of community work.

One thing I have learned is that people don’t always want a solution first. Usually they just need somebody who listens to them with patience and respect. Listening is a powerful form of support and change in and of itself, I have seen this through these small conversations, shared feelings and everyday interactions.

What I have learned through my work is that real change doesn't come from programs or reports. It comes from people and relationships and regular human connection. Every visit, every conversation, every moment spent in community is a seed planted for change in the future.

This journey has taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of human connection. Change in a community does not happen overnight. It starts with trust, understanding, and small conversations that make people feel heard.

It has been inspiring and meaningful to be part of this journey with UniCoN. It has strengthened my conviction that when communities are heard, appreciated and supported, they can become more resilient on their own. What we’re doing today may take time to come to full fruition but I believe it will have lasting impact for the future.
