Empowering persons with psychoses is a much-discussed topic the world over. Yet, where are we today?

As part of a dream-building activity at a SALT workshop, a group of us, all psychiatrists, dared to dream. One day - may this be the way!

As doctors, we dream for you for you……

We the doctors, say you have Psychoses – 

for you a dreaded frightening condition

And we say  - you need to take medication. 

Yet, we dream – of that day

When treatments are affordable and accessible

When the government brings its services to you and not the other way

Of that magic potion, one shot, your ills that it will do away. 

We dream 

Of the day 

You need no rehab centers 

For you to “recover” as they say

You are never at the margins

Within the community you stay

And  people come together, spontaneously

To give you the job that you need , 

That makes you independent and able

We hope for that Sun’s ray

We dream of the space 

Where you can live safely

Secure that you are cared for

Yet, it is a place where you can move

In and out freely

We dream of the day

When you are the voice

You enact, you sing, or you dance

You talk to all out there

Be it Diabetes or cancer

Water Days or the Global warming

Or even International women’s day

We dream 

That one day 

The day when you will lead from the top

For you care, You will lead the way

And you have the say

As doctors, We  dream for you

One day - may this be the way!
