In the heart of Bhatpara Tea Garden’s Basa Line lives Anil bhaiya, a 49-year-old parent whose life is steeped in compassion and courage. During a recent SALT conversation,
he opened up about an inspiring incident that continues to fill him with pride.A few months ago, work took him to Kalchini, around 10–12 kilometers from his village. By the time he was on his way back, it was already 9 PM—a quiet, dark night in the tea garden region. As he made his way home, he noticed a BSF soldier standing alone by the roadside. Curious and concerned, Anil bhaiya asked where the soldier was heading. The soldier explained that he needed to reach the Raimatang Depu BSF Camp but had no means of transport at that hour.Without hesitation, Anil bhaiya responded with warmth, “Come, I will take you there.” The road ahead was not easy—20–22 kilometers through dense forest, where the danger of wild animals was ever-present. But driven by empathy, he made the journey, ensuring the soldier reached his camp safely.Reflecting on that night, his words carried a deep sense of respect:
“These soldiers protect our nation day and night, risking their lives so we can sleep peacefully. Helping him gave me both pride and satisfaction.”Strengths that Shine ThroughOpenness & Confidence: His ability to share his life experiences and emotions openly was evident during our discussion.Empathy & Cooperation: He values helping others and believes that collective dialogue and community participation bring both happiness and unity.Lessons from the StoryCommunity bonds grow stronger when people share and listen to each other’s stories.Happiness multiplies when we help one another selflessly. His Thoughts on Community SpiritWhen asked what “community” means to him, Anil bhaiya gave a heartfelt reply. To him, a true community is one where everyone—young or old—stands by one another in times of need.
“If someone in our village is struggling, others help without hesitation. And when we face hardship, the villagers step forward to support us. This mutual-help spirit is real Community Spirit.”He firmly believes that cooperation and trust are the backbone of progress in any village.A Moment of ReflectionAt the end of our conversation, Anil bhaiya simply said he was glad to have had the chance to share his story—that no one had asked him about it before. The openness of the dialogue gave him joy. He wished more parents could come together for such discussions, sharing proud stories and acts of kindness, so that positivity could flow through the entire community. He envisions a village where collective, heartfelt conversations are a regular occurrence—creating an atmosphere of trust, unity, and happiness for everyone.
