My experience thus far facilitating S.A.L.T.

Presently I am supporting/stimulating, appreciating, listening, learning and transferring with 29 youths all under 17, the youngest being 12…it is truly amazing to see cold, defensive youths who were severely abused, truly open up when they are asked about their dreams,, hopes, concerns…empathetic listening truly breaks down barriers.

There was this particular beautiful girl child who did not want to speak to me in the beginning…but I observed that she was listening to her peer share their dreams while I facilitate; I believe that they gained trust when I said to them that I am not an expert, and truly I am not an expert, that was clearly felt by me and so it was what they felt; but I am becoming a better facilitator every time I facilitate, and you know what it is truly amazing …this child opened up and started to share , I felt great, I learnt so much from that child.

I am enjoying what I am doing. I t is a pleasure to transfer S.A.L.T. and a greater pleasure to see the impact and the eventual transfer by the ones being salted. There is hope for the challenged in this world, this society.

I always begin by discussing SALT, its purpose, value, use and impact on situations and things, (such as their dreams, hopes, concerns) to paint a good and true picture.

The young minds are fertile grounds for this powerful initiative.

Cordially,

Anderson Figaro.

Thanks Anderson. My takeaway from your blog is that if we stop thinking as an expert during the SALT visit  we can create an enabling environment which encourages sharing and learning. What did the little girl share? I am curious:-) Energy, curiosity and enthusiasm in children often amazes me.

I am happy that you are continuing to share SALT. Experts know only what they know, they refuse to learn from those they do not consider experts. When we open up our learning we realise that there is so much we can learn from those we associate with. As we facilitate more we become familiar with techniques which helps us to be better at it the next time. Looking forward to seeing more blogs from you. Keep up the good works!! Cheers
