A Day of Inspiration and Inclusion at the BRED Knowledge Fair

Yesterday, on the 25th of October, we had the humble privilege of visiting Nakalia Monjur Kader Degree College in Bera, Pabna, to learn from the BRED community at their Knowledge Fair. Our small group — me, Facilitator Manira apa, Shadman bhai, Selim bhai (Coordinator, Pahariapara Agamir School), Afsana Apa (a community member from Hijli, Byaspur), and the Alokito Kori team — set off early at 5:00 am. Parvez bhai took complete responsibility for the team’s safety and comfort. He got into the car first to ensure the girls’ safety throughout the trip, and at the end of the long day, he was the last person to go home only after making sure that everyone had reached home safely. His care and sense of responsibility made the whole journey peaceful and worry-free for all of us. I felt very cared for throughout the journey.

This Knowledge Fair was especially significant for me and our team because, for the first time, we were taking one of our own community members — Afsana Apa — to learn from another community in person and share her own experiences of teaching children, playing traditional games with them, and participating in grandparent’s story-telling sessions with others for reducing learning gap and screen time. This moment was more than just a learning opportunity; it was a chance to motivate her, to support her, see her own potential, and to inspire her to bring back knowledge and motivation to her community. For me, witnessing this process was deeply meaningful — it reminded me of the transformative power of learning, sharing, and recognizing the strength within every individual. It made me reflect on how creating these spaces of exchange not only benefits communities but also nurtures confidence, pride, and a sense of belonging, ownership in each person who participates.

After a five-and-a-half-hour journey, we arrived in Pabna. The community is wrapped in green fields and a gentle river — a place that felt like a serene home, where the heart could rest. I was immediately recharged by the peaceful beauty there; it felt like people were growing up on the lap of nature.

We entered the Knowledge Fair around 10:45 am and were welcomed by a room full of pride, bravery, and humility. The BRED community members stood and shared their initiatives openly and lovingly. Their work included many different actions: repairing roads, offering free tuition, building water filters, installing pipelines to prevent waterlogging, teaching children to swim, and giving adults literacy and numerical lessons so they can manage daily tasks independently — like reading letters, counting, and handling routine transactions. They also care for older people, run tree-planting and nutrition garden initiatives, make compost and fertilizer, install signboards to warn about high and low tides, organize sports competitions which are inspired from Healthy Masculinity, and even make boats so children can reach school safely in the monsoon. Each initiative was born out of deep care for one another.

One story that moved me deeply was about how they care for elderly people. Hearing how they support their one older neighbor — helping her with daily needs and dignity — made me feel both humbled and hopeful. Their compassion is not an abstract idea but a daily practice.

 

I felt so inspired by every team that I wanted to personally thank each of them. At the closing, I told the group how much I had learned — that their actions and their hearts are inspiring. We also shared our experiences: the Alokito Kori team presented some of their actions, and the GYRF team shared our stories too. From GYRF, facilitator Manira apa and Afsana Mim apa spoke about Hijlipara’s initiatives, and Selim bhai shared about the Pahariyapara school. It felt like a real exchange of learning — not one-way learning but mutual inspiration. While they shared their stories, I noticed something in their eyes — a mix of pride, hope, and deep connection to their community. It was as if each word they spoke carried their love for the people they work with and their dreams for a better future. Seeing that made me realize that sharing a community’s story is not just about telling others what they do, but also about celebrating their identity, their strength, and the difference they are making in people’s lives.

The event itself was beautifully run. Bayazid bhai’s hosting felt natural and warm; he made everyone feel appreciated. Humaira apa, Shahidul bhai and Ashiq bhai also offered encouraging words that added to the gentle energy of the day.

3 moments from the day touched me deeply.
The first was about inclusivity. I saw a physically challenged child being invited to recite a poem in front of everyone. She was so confident and inspiring, and it was heartwarming to see how the BRED team — especially Humaira apu — supported her personally, even carrying her during the photo session. It was such a powerful example of inclusion and dignity.

The second moment was also about inclusion — but this time, it was personal. When Humaira apu noticed that I had not yet had a chance to speak, she gently encouraged me to share our school-level initiatives so the students present might be inspired. That small act of care meant a lot. It showed how observant and thoughtful she is, ensuring no one feels left out.

One more thing that truly inspired me is how BRED does more than listen to community stories —they use those stories as strengths. The children's performances were not random: they were identified during SALT conversations. They remember people’s strengths and give them a stage to shine. That intentional use of community strengths is true empowerment.

I am deeply grateful to every member of the BRED team for their warm hospitality and the way they made us feel included. I will remember this day for a long time. Thank you also to Alokito Kori for traveling with us, keeping us safe, and making sure we had good food and companionship on the road. It was a beautiful, learning-filled day — I hope we have the chance to share such moments again soon. I want to especially thank Manira apa and Afsana Apa for making the long journey from Gopalganj to Dhaka to Pabna and back, and Selim bhai for traveling all the way from Mymensingh to Dhaka to Pabna and back. Their effort, commitment, and dedication to learning and sharing their experiences touched me deeply — it is a true reflection of their passion and care for the community. This kind of selfless effort reminds me that the facilitators and the community are truly the heart of everything we do.

গতকাল, ২৫ অক্টোবর, আমরা ধন্য সুযোগ পেয়েছিলাম বেড়া, পাবনার নাকালিয়া মনজুর কাদের ডিগ্রি কলেজে যাওয়ার এবং BRED কমিউনিটির নলেজ ফেয়ারে তাদের কাছ থেকে শেখার। আমাদের ছোট দলটি — আমি, ফ্যাসিলিটেটর মনিরা আপা, সাদমান ভাই, সেলিম ভাই (পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া আগামীর স্কুলের কোঅর্ডিনেটর), আফসানা আপা (হিজলি, ব্যাসপুর থেকে এক কমিউনিটি মেম্বার), এবং আলোকিত করি টিম — সকাল ৫টায় যাত্রা শুরু করি। পারভেজ ভাই পুরো দলের নিরাপত্তা এবং আরামের দায়িত্ব নেন। তিনি প্রথমে গাড়িতে উঠেন যাতে যাত্রার সময় মেয়েদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত হয়, এবং দিনের শেষে, সবাইকে নিরাপদে বাড়ি পৌঁছে দেওয়ার পর তিনি শেষেই বাড়ি যান। তাঁর যত্ন এবং দায়িত্ববোধ পুরো যাত্রাটিকে শান্তিপূর্ণ এবং নির্ভার করে তুলেছিল। আমি পুরো যাত্রায় খুবই সুরক্ষিত এবং যত্নশীল বোধ করেছি।

এই নলেজ ফেয়ারটি আমার এবং আমাদের দলের জন্য বিশেষ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ছিল, কারণ প্রথমবারের মতো আমরা আমাদের এক কমিউনিটি মেম্বার — আফসানা আপা —কে অন্য কমিউনিটির কাছ থেকে সরাসরি শেখার জন্য নিয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম, এবং একই সময়ে তিনি তাঁর নিজের অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করছিলেন। তিনি শিশুদের পড়াশোনা শেখানো, তাদের সঙ্গে ঐতিহ্যবাহী খেলা খেলা এবং দাদাদাদি গল্প বলার সেশনে অংশ নেওয়ার মতো কাজগুলি শেয়ার করছিলেন, যা শিক্ষার গ্যাপ কমাতে এবং শিশুদের ফোনের সময় নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে সাহায্য করে। এই মুহূর্তটি কেবল শেখার সুযোগ নয়; এটি ছিল তাকে উৎসাহিত করার, সমর্থন দেওয়ার, তার নিজস্ব ক্ষমতা দেখার এবং তাঁর কমিউনিটিতে নতুন জ্ঞান ও প্রেরণা নিয়ে আসার সুযোগ। আমার জন্য, এই প্রক্রিয়া দেখাটা গভীরভাবে অর্থবহ ছিল — এটি আমাকে মনে করিয়ে দিল যে শেখা, শেয়ার করা এবং প্রতিটি ব্যক্তির মধ্যে শক্তি চিহ্নিত করা কতটা রূপান্তরমূলক হতে পারে। এই ধরনের আদানপ্রদানের স্থান তৈরি করা কেবল কমিউনিটিগুলোর জন্য লাভজনক নয়, বরং এটি প্রত্যেক অংশগ্রহণকারীর আত্মবিশ্বাস, গর্ব এবং কমিউনিটির প্রতি সম্পর্কও বাড়ায়।

প্রায় ছয় ঘণ্টার যাত্রার পর আমরা পাবনায় পৌঁছলাম। কমিউনিটি সবুজ ক্ষেত্র এবং শান্ত নদী দিয়ে ঘেরা — এমন একটি জায়গা যেখানে মনে শান্তি এবং উষ্ণতা অনুভূত হয়। সেখানে পৌঁছে আমি তৎক্ষণাৎ প্রাণবন্ত হয়ে উঠলাম; মনে হলো মানুষ প্রকৃতির কোলে বড় হচ্ছে। আমরা সকাল ১০:৪৫ টায় নলেজ ফেয়ারে প্রবেশ করি এবং গর্ব, সাহস এবং বিনয় দিয়ে পূর্ণ একটি স্থান দেখতে পাই। BRED কমিউনিটি সদস্যরা নিজ উদ্যোগগুলি সাহসিকতার সঙ্গে সকলের সামনে শেয়ার করছিলেন। তাদের কাজের মধ্যে ছিল: রাস্তা সংস্কার, বিনামূল্যে টিউশন দেওয়া, পানি ফিল্টার তৈরি, জলাবদ্ধতা প্রতিরোধের জন্য পাইপলাইন স্থাপন, শিশুদের সাঁতার শেখানো, এবং প্রাপ্তবয়স্কদেরকে সাক্ষরতা ও গণিত শেখানো যাতে তারা দৈনন্দিন কাজ নিজে করতে পারে — যেমন অক্ষর পড়া, হিসাব করা এবং সাধারণ লেনদেন। তারা প্রবীণদের যত্ন নেয়, গাছ লাগানো ও পুষ্টি বাগান উদ্যোগ চালায়, কম্পোস্ট ও সার তৈরি করে, জোয়ার এবং ভাটার সময়ের সচেতনতার জন্য সাইনবোর্ড স্থাপন করে, হেলদি ম্যাস্কিউলিনিটি অনুপ্রেরিত ক্রীড়া প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজিত করে এবং বর্ষায় শিশুদের স্কুলে যাওয়ার জন্য নৌকা বানায়। প্রতিটি উদ্যোগ গভীর যত্ন এবং মানবিক দায়বদ্ধতা থেকে উদ্ভূত।

একটি গল্প যা আমাকে বিশেষভাবে স্পর্শ করেছে তা হলো, তারা কিভাবে প্রবীণদের যত্ন নেয়। তাদের একজন বৃদ্ধ প্রতিবেশীকে দৈনন্দিন প্রয়োজন এবং সম্মান সহায়তা করতে দেখলে আমি বিনীত এবং অনুপ্রাণিত বোধ করেছি। তাদের সহমর্মিতা কোনো ধারণা নয় — এটি প্রতিদিনের অভ্যাস।

আমি প্রতিটি দলের কাছ থেকে এত অনুপ্রেরণা পেলাম যে আমি ব্যক্তিগতভাবে তাদের সবাইকে ধন্যবাদ জানাতে চেয়েছিলাম। সমাপনীতে, আমি সবাইকে বলেছিলাম আমি কতটা শিখেছি — তাদের কাজ এবং হৃদয় অনুপ্রেরণামূলক। আমরা আমাদের অভিজ্ঞতাও শেয়ার করেছি: আলোকিত করি টিম তাদের কিছু উদ্যোগ শেয়ার করেছে, এবং GYRF টিম আমাদের গল্প শেয়ার করেছে। GYRF থেকে ফ্যাসিলিটেটর মনিরা আপা এবং আফসানা মিম আপা হিজলিপাড়া উদ্যোগ নিয়ে আলোচনা করেছেন, এবং সেলিম ভাই পাহাড়িয়াপাড়া স্কুলের গল্প শেয়ার করেছেন। এটি যেন সত্যিকারের শেখার বিনিময় — একপাশের শেখা নয়, বরং পারস্পরিক অনুপ্রেরণা। তাদের গল্প শেয়ার করার সময় আমি তাদের চোখে এক ধরনের গর্ব, আশা এবং কমিউনিটির সঙ্গে গভীর সংযোগ লক্ষ্য করেছি। মনে হলো প্রতিটি শব্দে তাদের কমিউনিটির প্রতি ভালোবাসা এবং ভালো ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন প্রকাশ পাচ্ছে। এটি আমাকে বুঝিয়েছে যে কমিউনিটির গল্প শেয়ার করা শুধু অন্যদের বলার বিষয় নয় — এটি তাদের পরিচয়, শক্তি এবং যে প্রভাব তারা মানুষের জীবনে ফেলে তা উদযাপন করারও একটি উপায়।

পুরো অনুষ্ঠানটি খুব সুন্দরভাবে পরিচালিত হয়েছিল।বায়েজিদ ভাইয়ের উপস্থাপনা প্রাকৃতিক এবং উষ্ণ ছিল; তিনি সবাইকে মূল্যায়নিত বোধ করিয়েছেন। হুমাইরা আপা, শাহেদুল ভাই এবং আশিক ভাইও উৎসাহব্যঞ্জক মন্তব্য দিয়ে দিনের উষ্ণ পরিবেশ তৈরি করেছেন।

দিবসের তিনটি মুহূর্ত আমাকে গভীরভাবে স্পর্শ করেছে।
প্রথমটি হলো অন্তর্ভুক্তি। আমি দেখেছি একটি শারীরিক প্রতিবন্ধী শিশুকে সকলের সামনে কবিতা পাঠ করার সুযোগ দেওয়া হয়েছে। সে খুবই আত্মবিশ্বাসী এবং অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ক ছিল, এবং BRED টিম — বিশেষ করে হুমায়রা আপা — তাকে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে সহায়তা করেছে, এমনকি ছবি তোলার সময় তাকে বরণ করেছে। এটি অন্তর্ভুক্তি এবং মর্যাদার একটি শক্তিশালী উদাহরণ।

দ্বিতীয়টিও অন্তর্ভুক্তি — কিন্তু এবার ব্যক্তিগত। যখন  হুমায়রা  আপা লক্ষ্য করেছিলেন যে আমি এখনও বলার সুযোগ পাইনি, তিনি নরমভাবে আমাকে আমাদের স্কুল পর্যায়ের উদ্যোগ শেয়ার করতে উৎসাহিত করেছিলেন যাতে উপস্থিত শিক্ষার্থীরা অনুপ্রাণিত হয়। এই ছোট্ট যত্নের কাজটি আমার জন্য অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ছিল। এটি দেখিয়েছে তিনি কতটা লক্ষ্যণীয় এবং চিন্তাশীল, নিশ্চিত করে যে কেউ বাদ পড়ে না।

আরও একটি বিষয় যা আমাকে সত্যিই অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে তা হলো, BRED শুধু কমিউনিটির গল্প শোনে না — তারা সেই গল্পগুলোকে শক্তি হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে। শিশুদের পারফরম্যান্সগুলো এলোমেলো নয়: এগুলো SALT আলাপের সময় চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে। তারা মানুষের শক্তি মনে রাখে এবং তাদের প্রদর্শনের একটি প্ল্যাটফর্ম দেয়। এই উদ্দেশ্যমূলক শক্তি ব্যবহারই সত্যিকারের ক্ষমতায়ন।

আমি BRED টিমের প্রতিটি সদস্যের উষ্ণ আতিথেয়তা এবং আমাদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে রাখার জন্য গভীরভাবে কৃতজ্ঞ। আমি এই দিনটি দীর্ঘ সময় মনে রাখব। আলোকিত করি টিমকেও ধন্যবাদ, আমাদের সঙ্গে যাত্রা করার, নিরাপদ রাখার এবং পথে ভালো খাবার এবং সঙ্গ দেওয়ার জন্য। এটি ছিল এক সুন্দর, শেখায় ভরা দিন — আশা করি আবার এমন মুহূর্ত ভাগ করার সুযোগ পাব।

আমি বিশেষভাবে মনিরা আপা এবং আফসানা আপাকে ধন্যবাদ দিতে চাই, যিনি গোপালগঞ্জ থেকে ঢাকা, ঢাকা থেকে পাবনা এবং ফিরে গোপালগঞ্জ পর্যন্ত দীর্ঘ যাত্রা করেছেন, এবং সেলিম ভাইকে ধন্যবাদ, যিনি ময়মনসিংহ থেকে ঢাকা, পাবনা এবং ফিরে ময়মনসিংহ যাত্রা করেছেন। তাদের প্রচেষ্টা, সমর্থন এবং শেখার ও অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করার প্রতিশ্রুতি আমাকে গভীরভাবে স্পর্শ করেছে — এটি তাদের কমিউনিটির প্রতি ভালোবাসা এবং যত্নের প্রকৃত প্রতিফলন। এই ধরনের নিঃস্বার্থ প্রচেষ্টা আমাকে মনে করিয়ে দেয় যে ফ্যাসিলিটেটর এবং কমিউনিটি প্রকৃত অর্থেই এই উদ্যোগের হৃদয়।
