About Me:
Shireene Judy Jude McMillan, from a very early age, always wondered what it would be like when women would proportionately represent the leadership of the Caribbean Region, and the world. Service was always of paramount importance to her – Shireene always stated and continues to maintain; she wants to serve her country and her region -- as an effective representative of its people.

Shireene’s education was forged through a series of effective and excellent schools. On finishing High School, Shireene sought to advance her education and attended St. George’s University, School of Arts and Sciences, where she obtained Bachelors of Science in Life Sciences, in 2008. She continued her studies at the St. George’s University, School of Medicine, and in 2010 graduated with a Masters in Public Health, with specialization in Health Behaviors and Policy. She excelled academically and was recognized for her outstanding Capstone Paper (thesis) entitled “Public Health Significance, Factors, and Impact of Intimate Partner Violence of Women in the Caribbean”.

Throughout the years, Shireene’s dedication to the pursuit of excellence has resulted in several accolades and awards. She has high moral and ethical standards, and those attributes are evident in her everyday dealings with others. She has been actively involved in the Commonwealth Caribbean Regional Youth Caucus as Grenada’s Youth Ambassador, and as the Commonwealth Caribbean Youth Caucus Chair. Shireene holds membership on many Boards, including the Pan–Commonwealth Youth Caucus (Executive Member), Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sports (CABOS), and Grenada Red Cross Society.

She has also been a voice for youth addressing various thematic areas, inter alia, health, education, peace building, climate change, social contemporary issues, and has presented the youth’s perspective on various issues. She has participated in numerous international youth meetings/workshops and high level global meetings, including addressing the General Assembly at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Youth in July 2011. She has also provided substantive input into many “white papers” regarding her area of expertise – Public Health.

Shireene has been committed to health promotion, with specific emphasis on vulnerable groups, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS, and Non-Communicable Diseases. She has been involved in community organizing, grass roots advocacy and research, collaborating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Commonwealth Youth Program (CYP), Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), governments, international non-governmental organizations, faith-based organizations, youth and community groups, over a twelve-year period in Grenada and the Caribbean.

Shireene is a goal-oriented individual, and will continue to promote positive social change by fostering inclusion -- respect for diversity, equality, and the participation of all. She has been constantly involved in voluntary work in the Caribbean promoting poverty alleviation, women and youth empowerment, advancing development, and protecting human rights and human dignity and founded her own, Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) as a vehicle to further those goals.

More importantly, Shireene’s desire to serve is unquestionable. She has shown that she has the moral fiber to impact societies, tenacity of purpose, commitment and dedication to the improvement of health, particularly among vulnerable groups.

She has demonstrated unequivocally that she has leadership qualities. Shireene has essentially been prepared and continues to prepare herself to be “an agent for change” through her unflagging service to her Region, and the world at large.

Today represents the present that will inevitably determine the future and Shireene Judy Jude McMillan is one such person for today -- and the future.
My dream:
Youth at the center of development.
World Peace.
Poverty fully eradicated.
HIV incidence rate to zero.
I'm proud of:
Volunteering!

- I have been committed to health promotion and empowerment, with specific reference to youth, and as a result; I have volunteered with local, regional, and international organizations (assisting with research as well as disseminating the findings, engaging in community service, planning and organizing health fairs and other events, etc.)

- I hold membership on various boards and organizations in the Caribbean and internationally, e.g Grenada Red Cross Society, Commonwealth Advisory Board on Sports (CABOS), Pan- Commonwealth Youth Caucus, and the Caribbean Regional Youth Caucus among others;

- I have dedicated most of my life to promoting social cohesion - the prevention of human suffering and poverty through unwavering service;

- I have been involved in community organizing, grass roots advocacy and research, collaborating with the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP), governments, national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), faith- based organizations, and community groups, through many initiatives;

- I have spent hours in elderly and children’s home, as a member of the Grenada Red Cross, and other humanitarian networks;

- I have been actively involved in many health initiatives participating in numerous youth meetings and consultations, and have provided substantive input into many “white papers” regarding my area of expertise – Public Health;
- Labeled as a motivational speaker and youth mentor, I am engaged in mentoring girls and young women;

- As a believer in environmental sustainability, I have worked with youth networks in environmental clean-up and other initiatives by encouraging young people to protect the environment;

-As a member of the Pan-Commonwealth Youth Caucus and Health Advocacy Chairperson entrusted with the responsibility of promoting health advocacy and awareness throughout the Commonwealth;

-With over 10 years in the “volunteerism” arena, I see it as a means of fostering positive relationships and a vehicle for bringing solutions to many challenges without constraints on resources – both human and financial. initaitve
