How did you know about Constellation community?
Through Ian Cambell. I was a member but have left my old email address and am now a PhD researcher
Organisation
Sussex University
About Me:
I call myself an interactionist, interested in relational and creative approaches to social justice, development, health and generally understanding our world. I have a particular interest in Community Based Approaches and have worked extensively in Public and Community Engagement with Science, having previously managed the International Public Engagement Programme for the Wellcome Trust, created and presented family and adult learning events at London’s Natural History Museum all building on experiences from the ‘coal face’ running workshops and playing in the children’s galleries of London’s Science Museum. I have now made community engagement with biomedical research the subject matter of my doctoral research.

I like to bring like minds together but I like bringing unlike minds together more and generating new and meaningful partnerships. I have played an instrumental role in fostering an international community of practice interested in how community based biomedical research can relate better with local populations spanning the UK, South East Asia and Africa. And have facilitated young people’s workshops and projects such as the participatory film project ‘Adelante Jovenes’.

My interests and research abilities cross disciplines. With an undergraduate degree in Biology with media, a Master’s degree in Human Geography (Practicing Sustainable Development), and I am currently working as a Wellcome Trust Society and Ethics doctoral researcher within the Anthropology and Media, Film and Music departments at Sussex University. I will be conducting practice based research to explore the use of Socially Engaged Arts in bringing together biomedical researchers and indigenous cultures and belief systems.

I was working in Nepal at the time of the earthquake on this project http://www.sacredwaternepal.com. I will be returning to Nepal in 2016 to work on further projects and would like to connect with others working in communities there.
My dream:
To challenge inequalities through promoting empathy, dialogue and creativity. I dream of a world where a child is born on one side of the world has as many chances as a child born on the other.
I'm proud of:
Having strong personal and lasting connections with people in communities where I work and of having the strength to live according to my personal value system and to have learnt to listen to it and respect it rather than try and emulate what other's value.
