Be Prepared!!

Today, myself and some others from the CLCGuyana, did the dreambuilding and self-assessment processes with the HIV field officers of the Guyana Red Cross. The group again demonstrated  that there are different learning levels in adults. It demonstrated that with increase knowledge of the communities you work in the easier it is to do self analysis.

From feed back it was learnt that participants appreciated the fluidity of how facilitators coordinated themselves in presenting the the steps. This reminds us of the importance of planning before proceeding to do a presentation. Preparedness goes a far way in ensuring that maximum content payload is delivered in an effective and efficient manner. 

I feel personally fulfilled in that i came away knowing that the group went away feeling a sense of accomplishment. I know that they will in their work use the concept of SALT  in the work they do in communities across Guyana.

She may be better able to answer that question. I will not be able give you a proper answer to that.  I know she had mentioned it recently, will remind her about it. I will be out of town for the next 8 days, I get back on the 22nd.

Great to hear about Ashanta's involvement still. How about Global Fund Round 11? Do you see any opportunities there? I know Ashanta is in the CCM I think? She didn't reply to my email yet, but it might be a good opportunity for Guyana CLC together with the Constellation?

Michael, I like! Yes effective planning is important but team effort is also important. I experienced that in the experience. TEAM: To Each A Member. The presentations were seemingless i.e smooth so added to preparation SALT is in the 'blood' of Facilitators. Great work.

Yes this was an invitation from Ashanta. She is doing well. We have opened the invitation for participants to be trained as facilitators. The day's sessions was really to expose them to the process, hopefully they will be interested in becoming trained so that they can use it with their communities.

:) . And will you plan for an action planning session? BTW, was the invitation coming from Ashanta? Am wondering how she is doing?

They did go in depth; in doing the self assessment we discussed the practices from an individual level then looked at it in terms of the larger community. It provided the participants the opportunity to reflect on the practices from a more personal position. This proved useful for it made them feel some sense of ownership.

I agree too that sometimes we have to scrap the plan and flow with the tide but this in itself says "be prepared" lol  " " Be prepared to scrap the plan"

Great to hear this Michael. I agree. In my experience, preparing facilitation is (more than) half of the work, even sometimes we have to be ready to completely forget our plans and go with the community flow. I was wondering if the discussions went into depth and people were at ease with looking at their own AIDS Competence instead of the competence of the communities they work with?
