চরবিন পাড়া কমিউনিটিতে আমি যখন প্রথমবার গ্রুপ SALT সেশন পরিচালনা করতে যাই, তখন সেখানে কিছু নারী উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সেশন চলাকালীন আমি তাদের কাছে জানতে চাইলাম, “আপনাদের কমিউনিটির সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সমস্যা বা প্রয়োজন কী?” তারা নিজেদের মধ্যে আলোচনা করে জানালেন, “আমাদের কমিউনিটিতে যদি ছোট বাচ্চাদের জন্য একটি স্কুল থাকতো, তাহলে আমাদের জন্য খুব উপকার হতো।” তাদের এই কথার পেছনের কারণ জানতে চাইলে তারা বললেন, “আমাদের অনেক নারী প্রতিদিন সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠে বাজারে ফুল বিক্রি করতে যায়। তখন আমাদের ছোট ছোট বাচ্চারা ঘরে একা থাকে। কেউ তাদের দেখাশোনা করে না। ঘুম থেকে উঠে বাচ্চারা একাকীত্ব বোধ করে, ভয় পায়। তার উপর আমাদের কমিউনিটির প্রায় প্রতিটি বাড়ির সামনে দিয়ে নদী বয়ে গেছে, ফলে বাচ্চারা প্রায়ই ঝুঁকির মধ্যে থাকে।” এই কথাগুলো শুনে বোঝা গেল, তাদের জন্য স্কুল শুধু শিক্ষার জায়গা নয়, এটি তাদের সন্তানদের নিরাপত্তা ও যত্নের স্থান হবে। SALT (Support – Appreciate – Learn – Transfer) হলো এমন একটি পদ্ধতি যা কমিউনিটির ভেতরের শক্তি ও সক্ষমতাকে চিহ্নিত করে এবং তা থেকেই পরিবর্তনের সূচনা ঘটায়। এই আলোচনার মধ্য দিয়ে চরবিন পাড়ার নারীরা বুঝতে পারেন যে, তারা নিজেরাই সমস্যার সমাধান করতে পারেন। বাইরের সাহায্যের অপেক্ষায় না থেকে তারা নিজেরা সিদ্ধান্ত নেন তাদের বাচ্চাদের জন্য একটি কমিউনিটি স্কুল গড়ে তোলার। স্কুল গঠনের পর তারা নিজেরাই এর দায়িত্ব নেয়। কমিউনিটির পাঁচজন নারীর সমন্বয়ে একটি পরিচালনা কমিটি গঠন করা হয়। তারা সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়, স্কুলের প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থী মাসে ২০ টাকা করে বেতন দেবে।
‎এই টাকা দিয়ে স্কুলের প্রয়োজনীয় খরচ, যেমন – খাতা, চক, বোর্ড, মাদুর ইত্যাদি জোগাড় করা হয়। এভাবে, SALT-এর আলোচনার মাধ্যমে একটি টেকসই ও স্বনির্ভর স্কুল তৈরি হয়, যেখানে কমিউনিটিই স্কুল পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব পালন করছে। চরবিন পাড়া কমিউনিটি স্কুলটি শুধু পাঠদানের জায়গা নয়; এটি শিশুদের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ ও আনন্দময় পরিবেশ। এখানে শিশুরা সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠে আসে, সারাদিন খেলাধুলা, গল্প ও গান শেখে। শিক্ষকরা শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি বাচ্চাদের মানসিক বিকাশের দিকেও নজর দেন। খেলার মাধ্যমে শেখার ফলে শিশুরা শুধু বইয়ের জ্ঞানই নয়, দলবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করা, বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে ভাগাভাগি করা, এবং সহযোগিতা করা শিখছে।
‎এদিকে মায়েরা নিশ্চিন্তে বাজারে ফুল বিক্রি করতে যেতে পারেন, কারণ তারা জানেন তাদের সন্তান নিরাপদ স্থানে আছে। এই পরিবর্তনের পেছনে মূল চালিকাশক্তি ছিল গ্রুপ SALT। সেশনের মাধ্যমে নারীরা নিজেদের অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করেন, একে অপরের চিন্তা থেকে শেখেন এবং সম্মিলিতভাবে পদক্ষেপ নেন। তারা উপলব্ধি করেন যে, তাদের ভেতরেই পরিবর্তন আনার শক্তি আছে। গ্রুপ SALT তাদের আত্মবিশ্বাস বাড়িয়েছে, নেতৃত্বের ক্ষমতা জাগ্রত করেছে এবং তাদের সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণে সক্রিয় করেছে। ফলে স্কুলটি শুধু শিশুদের জন্য নয়, বরং পুরো কমিউনিটির উন্নয়ন ও ঐক্যের প্রতীক হয়ে উঠেছে। চরবিন পাড়া কমিউনিটির এই গল্পটি দেখায়, SALT পদ্ধতি কেবল একটি আলোচনা নয়, এটি একটি পরিবর্তনের প্রক্রিয়া। যখন মানুষকে তাদের সক্ষমতা ও দায়িত্ব সম্পর্কে সচেতন করা হয়, তখন তারা নিজেরাই টেকসই সমাধান তৈরি করতে পারে। আজ চরবিন পাড়ার শিশুরা নিরাপদ, আনন্দময় পরিবেশে খেলার মাধ্যমে শিখছে। আর তাদের মায়েরা গর্বের সঙ্গে বলতে পারেন, “আমরাই আমাদের বাচ্চাদের ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ে তুলেছি।”

‎When I first went to Chorbin Para Community to conduct a group SALT session, a few women were present. During the session, I asked them, “What is the most important problem or need in your community?” After discussing among themselves, they replied, “If we had a small school for our children, it would help us a lot.” Curious to know more, I asked why this was so important. They explained, “Every morning, many of us go to the market to sell flowers. During that time, our small children are left alone at home. They feel lonely and scared when they wake up. Moreover, there’s a river flowing right in front of most of our houses, which often puts our children at risk.” From their words, it became clear that a school, for them, was not just a place of learning, it was a place of safety and care for their children. SALT (Support – Appreciate – Learn – Transfer) is a process that helps communities identify their inner strengths and capacities, leading to change from within. Through this group discussion, the women of Chorbin Para realized that they themselves could solve their problems. Instead of waiting for outside help, they decided to establish a community school for their children. After forming the school, they took full responsibility for running it. A management committee of five women was created to oversee operations. They decided that each student would contribute a monthly fee of 20 taka. This small fund would cover essential expenses such as notebooks, chalk, boards, and mats. In this way, through the SALT approach, a sustainable and self-managed school was born—run entirely by the community itself. The Chorbin Para Community School is not just a place for lessons; it is a safe and joyful environment for children. Every morning, the children come eagerly, spending their days playing, learning stories, and singing songs. The teachers focus not only on academics but also on the children’s emotional and social development. Through learning by play, the children are gaining more than book knowledge, they are learning teamwork, sharing, and cooperation. Meanwhile, their mothers can now go to the market without worry, knowing their children are safe and happy. Behind this transformation lies the driving force of the group SALT process. Through open discussion, the women shared experiences, learned from one another, and took collective action. They realized that the power to bring change already existed within them. SALT enhanced their confidence, leadership, and decision-making abilities. As a result, the school has become not only a place of learning for children but also a symbol of unity and empowerment for the whole community. The story of Chorbin Para demonstrates that SALT is not merely a conversation, it is a process of transformation. When people become aware of their own strengths and responsibilities, they can create sustainable solutions on their own. Today, the children of Chorbin Para are learning joyfully through play, and their mothers proudly say, “We have built our children’s future with our own hands.”
