I am Binita Chepang, born and raised in the Chepang community of Thakre Rural Municipality, Ward No. 7, Dhading district, Nepal. Despite many struggles, I completed my +2 studies and am now studying Bachelor’s in Social Work, from which I have gained some experiences. Since childhood, I have liked social subjects, and believing that social work can bring change in society, I now consider myself an example for my community and also a social activist for society. For the past eight years, I have been working with youth, women, and children through various programs in my society and community. Some programs I have carried out in coordination with supporting organizations and local bodies, while some I have supported personally. I have many experiences in social work and service.

I became familiar with Peace for People around six to seven years ago. About three to four years ago, I had the opportunity from Peace for People to teach basic computer classes for three months to teachers of a school in my village. Now, I have been given this golden opportunity to work as a social facilitator. After joining here, I have had the chance to learn many new things. Along with developing our 15-year vision, we also conducted a self-assessment about our organization with the organization’s chairperson, board members, and the staff working in the field. We discussed together and assessed how far we have reached in our target areas according to our goals and objectives by giving numbers.

My experiences while doing this self-assessment are: I realized that I can measure the level where I or my organization stands. We can see how far we have reached according to the institution’s goals and objectives. By getting the chance to discuss with the organization’s chairperson, board members, and staff, we employees also got opportunities to gain new experiences along with understanding the organization. While discussing in a group, we can evaluate ourselves to understand where we stand in any topic. Earlier, we used to do the assessment verbally, which took a lot of time and was hard to understand and explain. But using numbers made it short, sweet, effective, and easy for everyone to understand quickly. From this discussion, both I and my fellow colleagues gained new experiences and learning.
Special thanks to everyone who provided this opportunity.
