During today’s SALT session held in the Basa Line area of Bhatpara Tea Garden, 39-year-old Maya Di shared a deeply inspiring experience. While narrating her “Proud Story,” she recalled an incident from a few years ago when she was doing her household chores. At that time, a woman came to her house asking for some food. Maya Di said that she had completely run out of grain at home, yet she borrowed a little from a neighbor, cooked it, and served the woman with respect and love. She described that moment as the most memorable and happiest one in her life.
While sharing this story, her face shone with satisfaction and pride.
The strengths I noticed in Maya Di were:
* Examples of strong women who face struggles with courage
* The power of empathy and service despite hardships
* A caring and compassionate nature
As a SALT facilitator, I learned some invaluable lessons from her:
* Even in times of struggle and scarcity, it is possible to prioritize humanity and service.
* Small acts of kindness can create great happiness and a positive ripple effect.
Maya Di’s thoughts about community:
For Maya Di, community means more than just people — it is a family that shares joys and sorrows together, offering unwavering help and support.
Supporting one another in the community becomes a source of happiness and contentment, bringing stability and positivity in life.
AER (After Experience Reflection)
What went well during today’s conversation, and why?
In response, Maya Di said that she felt happy because she was asked to share her proud story and was given space to speak about herself. Such a conversation happened for the first time in her village, which gave her great joy and satisfaction.
What could have been done better during the conversation?
Maya Di said that since this was her first experience of such a discussion, she had to think a bit before sharing.
She also mentioned that if two more women like her had joined the conversation, everyone could have learned more about each other.
