February 21st was the International Mother Language Day of our country. Once upon a time, it was unthinkable that the Pechakola community would celebrate this day in this way. But this time, the community's adolescent Jamuna team made the impossible possible by doing that work. They said that earlier they had not even thought of organizing it like this, and even if they had thought about it, they would have been worried about how to implement it. Because there was no unity in the community and there was little confidence. But that was when SALT's journey began in the community. After joining this process, they learned to recognize their inner strength anew. They realized that we can change the community, no one else.
In the continuation of this, they sat together and discussed several times. First, the idea of doing something about the children of the community came up. They considered it important to create a place for their mental development, confidence and joy. From there, they took some small initiatives. Later, they sat down again and discussed what could be done on the occasion of February 21st. At one point, they decided to celebrate the day differently by involving children, teenagers and their parents. According to that plan, some fun activities were organized with the participation of sports, painting competitions and parents. The aim was to build a healthy and united community along with the mental and physical development of the children. The event was a success. The parents were proud to see their children participating. Previously, they did not know that their children had the strength to do this, which they have now come to know. They praised the children and secretly arranged some prizes for the children so that they would be more motivated.
The members of the Jamuna team said, we can do a lot together. This event has taught us that the community is ours, so it is our responsibility to change. Now we have the courage to do something better in the future.

২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি আমাদের দেশের আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস। একসময় এই দিনটিতে পেঁচাকোলা কমিউনিটি এই ভাবে উদযাপন করবে তা অভাবনীয় ছিল। কিন্তু এবার সেই অসম্ভবকে সম্ভব করেছে কমিউনিটির কিশোদের যমুনা দল সেই কাজটি করে দেখিয়েছে। তারা বলেছে, আগে এভাবে আয়োজনের কথা চিন্তাই করতাম না, আর চিন্তা করলেও কিভাবে বাস্তবায়ন করবো সেটা নিয়ে চিন্তিত থাকতাম। কারণ কমিউনিটিতে একতা ছিল না, আত্মবিশ্বাসও কম ছিল। কিন্তু ঠিক সেই সময়ই কমিউনিটিতে সল্টের যাত্রা শুরু হয়েছিল। এই প্রক্রিয়ায় যুক্ত হওয়ার পর তারা নিজেদের ভেতরের শক্তিটা নতুন করে চিনতে শিখেছিল। উপলব্ধি করেছিল, আমরাই কমিউনিটি বদলাতে পারি, অন্য কেউ নয়।
এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় তারা কয়েকবার একসাথে বসে আলোচনা করেছিল। প্রথমে কমিউনিটির শিশুদের নিয়ে কিছু করার কথা সামনে আসে। তাদের মানসিক বিকাশ, আত্মবিশ্বাস আর আনন্দের জায়গা তৈরি করা প্রয়োজন এটা তারা গুরুত্ব দিয়ে ভাবে। সেখান থেকেই ছোট ছোট কিছু উদ্যোগ নিয়েছিল। পরে আবার বসে ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি উপলক্ষে কী করা যায় তা নিয়ে আলোচনা করে। একপর্যায়ে তারা নিজেরাই সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়, শিশু, কিশোর কিশোরী এবং অভিভাবকদের যুক্ত করে ভিন্নভাবে দিনটি পালন করবে। সেই পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী খেলাধুলা, চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতা এবং অভিভাবকদের অংশগ্রহণে কিছু আনন্দঘন আয়োজন করা হয়। লক্ষ্য ছিল শিশুদের মানসিক ও শারীরিক বিকাশের পাশাপাশি একটি সুস্থ ও একতাবদ্ধ কমিউনিটি গড়ে তোলা।আয়োজনটি সফল হয়। অভিভাবকেরা নিজেদের সন্তানের অংশগ্রহণ দেখে গর্বিত হন। পূর্বে তাদের সন্তানদের মধ্যে এতে শক্তি আছে সেটি তারা জানত না, যা এখন তারা জানতে পেরেছে। সন্তানের প্রশংসা করেছে এবং নিজেরাই গোপনীয় ভাবে কিছু পুরস্কারের ব্যবস্থা ও রেখেছিল যাতে শিশুরা আরও উৎসাহ পায়।
যমুনা দলের সদস্যরা বলেছে, আমরা একসাথে হলে অনেক কিছুই করতে পারি। এই আয়োজন আমাদের শিখিয়েছে, কমিউনিটি আমাদের, তাই বদলানোর দায়িত্বও আমাদের। এখন সামনে আরও ভালো কিছু করার সাহস আমরা পাই।
