About Me:
Former international news producer and multimedia convergence pioneer at CNN International and CNN.com. Did some of the earliest reporting on HIV in India while at CNN; launched much of CNN's Asia-Pacific news programming; and pushed CNN to cover LGBT and HIV issues globally and regionally over the years. Became a media consultant globally after leaving CNN.

Switched to public health advocacy and communications via the World Health Organization office in China (2003 - 2006) and then the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) in Vancouver, Canada (2006 - 2009). Worked on issues ranging from emerging infectious diseases (SARS, pandemic influenza) to HIV/AIDS, from non-communicable diseases to environmental health.

Returned to Bombay in 2010 after almost 25 years away for personal reasons, and eventually joined Heroes Project (www.heroesprojectindia.org) as its Executive Director. Heroes Project is part of the Bill and Melinda Gates' Avahan HIV program in India. We work on HIV communications and advocacy via societal leaders and the media (especially the entertainment media), producing "education entertainment" to reduce HIV-related stigma and discrimination, and seeking to empower vulnerable populations (men who have sex with men, transgender persons and female sex workers) as well as to educate the wider population.
My dream:
A world free of stigma and discrimination on all counts, including vis-a-vis LGBT issues and HIV, where government and civil society (with a focus on community) join hands in true partnership founded in a spirit of equality, mutual understanding and support.
I'm proud of:
My family, including my late brother Riyad Wadia, India's first openly gay filmmaker (BOMgAY, A Mermaid Called Aida), and my long-time partner Alan Hsiung who I had the privilege of legally getting married to in Canada in 2008.
