Tools for gender sensitive evaluation and research

Institute of Social Studies Trust invited Ranjani Murthy, feminist researcher and evaluator, to our workshop to share the participatory evaluation tools that she uses when she conducts evaluations. While many of these tools are used in participatory research and evaluations, our interest in these tools was to understand how these tools maybe used for gender sensitive and feminist evaluations. Since female genital mutilation (FGM) has been outlawed in Ethiopia, some rural families have been holding clandestine circumcisions, said parents at confidential focus group discussions in Ethiopia fo.... Often, the ritual takes place at night in order to evade prosecution, with girls at even greater risk due to poor lighting or the use of less experienced practitioners.

Through celebrating, connecting and learning from and with women social leaders, the awards platform is intended to strengthen the growing global community of women seeking to have a positive impact on people and planet, through business, a network, a campaign, or an intermediary organization.

With respect to enabling connections, Oguntê, for instance, can refer finalists to aspiring women social entrepreneurs, angel investors and potential buyers. It is able to do this through its own significant network, which includes collaboration with leadership programs such as Common Purpose, networks such as Women in Social Finance, which is led by Suzanne Biegel, as well asMatch International, a fund for women social innovators.

Voices against Violence

Authors/Editor(s): World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and UN Women

“Voices against Violence” is a co-educational curriculum developed by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and UN Women, with inputs from young people. Designed for various age groups ranging from 5 to 25 years, it provides young people with tools and expertise to understand the root causes of violence in their communities, to educate and involve their peers and communities to prevent such violence, and to learn about where to access support if violence is experienced.

The curriculum includes a handbook for peer educators that will help them deliver age-appropriate sessions, as well as age-appropriate non-formal educational activities. The youngest groups may start out with storytelling and games that prompt them to think about gender bias and stereotypes, while older age groups can organize poster competitions, visit and volunteer with local shelters, or develop local community-based campaigns and projects to address specific forms of violence against girls and women.

“Voices against Violence” is a tool for young people around the world. It can be adapted to national contexts, translated into local languages, and rolled out in schools and communities in partnership with youth organizations, UN partners and governments.
