There is a woman who supplies yogurt to a company and the workers really patronise her, with time some of the workers that consume this yogurt started falling sick one after the other.

The management of the company decided to invite our organisation to carry out a Voluntary counselling and testing for all the workers, after the test about 70% of the workers were infected.

So they decide to investigate the cause of their predicament, they ask their wives to go for a test and some of them were tested negative.

They now remember the yogurt seller, She was also tested positive after the test.

She confesses that her yogurt contain some infected blood. She said that, she was been raped by one of the worker of the worker, so she decided to go on a Vengeance.

This a heart breaking revenge ,personally i think there was a better way of resolving this ,probably a relation way rather than extending the whole vengeance to innocent workers and their loved ones

Okay i agree many women have been subjected to this beastly acts buts lets arise above this as a society and solve this vices in a more friendly and relational way

Its really nice that you all contributed to this, I know this is very confusing and we have been delebrating on this issue in our office, that its very difficult for the virus to live outside the body for a longer period of time.
I think, people are been stigmatise in different ways. The most important thing is creating awareness about stigma and discrimation.

Thanks Ukeme for the story. Thanks Gaston for scientific details , yes the chances are very remote in this case that people get infected by consuming yogurt.
Thanks JL for asking a stimulating SALT y question.

I recall what JL told us once "keep appreciating" . Ukeme you may like to have a SALT visit to that workplace, begin one and come back tell us what unfolds!

warmly,

Rebeka

Good response, Gaston. Thanks.

I think the post, and the reaction it provokes in many of us, is a helpful reminder of some of the practises that lead to human competence around HIV and AIDS - acknowledging our vulnerability; accessing and understanding and applying sound information; stigma.

1. No this is not possible. Source: http://www.avert.org/faq1.htm# . HIV is not an airborne, water-borne or food-borne virus, and does not survive for very long outside the human body. Therefore ordinary social contact such as kissing, shaking hands, coughing and sharing cutlery does not result in the virus being passed from one person to another.

Research suggests that the risk of HIV infection through blood splashes in eye/ mouth is extremely small. A very small number of people - usually in a healthcare setting - have become infected with HIV as a result of blood splashes in the eye. Blood in the mouth carries an even lower risk. The lining of the mouth is very protective, so the only way HIV could enter the bloodstream would be if the person had a cut, open sore or area of inflammation somewhere in their mouth or throat (if the blood was swallowed). Even then, the person would have to get a fairly significant quantity of fresh blood (i.e. an amount that can be clearly seen or tasted) directly into the region of the cut or sore for there to be a risk. HIV is diluted by saliva and easily killed by stomach acid once the blood is swallowed.

Did all these men have open cuts in their mouths? Perhaps they can discuss their AIDS Competence and own vulnerabilities sometime? You can facilitate a self-assessment exercise if they are open to it?

On 2. I wouldn't say no PLHIV would have vengeance against the world, but this is a incredibly small number. It could be compared to the % of non-infected people who have similar ideas of vengeance related to other issues.

Hey Ukema and everyone else .1) ..Is this really possible as a method of infection ...2) Is it really the case that PLHIV have vengence against the world and use their HIV as a weapon ? ....
