Today, Thursday 25th October 2018, I was interviewed by Anu about the online SALT-course my triad finished last summer.

Preparing for that interview I was pondering about (among more) the question 'What is SALT for me?'. That is a powerful question that made me look inside and find answers I wasn't aware of before.  I like to share some thoughts with you.

For me SALT is:

- Respect for the individual, for the community and for the world.

- The wisdom of the individual, of the community and of humanity.

- Showing my true self.

- Being humble: I don't know what is needed on the 'other side', I only can give myself and all my talents to let others find theirs.

- About being curious, but not intruding.

- Being 'only' the facilitator and holding a safe space for the group.

- Not being attached to the outcome

- Trusting the process, and watching what is trying to emerge.

It was very rewarding to sit and ponder!

Warmly,
Margot

Merci Margot!

What is SALT for me? Margot

https://aidscompetence.ning.com/profiles/blogs/what-is-salt-for-me

- Montrer mon vrai moi.

Dear Margot

Your thought: "(SALT is ) about being curious, but not intruding" made me think a lot. I am genuinely curious, but as you say, it is also important not to intrude. I think that there are occasions when I find the balance difficult and my curiosity crosses over the line to intrusion. That recognition is very helpful for me.

One that I would add is that SALT about giving people silence to think about what they want to say. So not hurrying, not pushing, just being comfortable so that people can think. And there is a balance here too. Some discomfort with the silence is OK, but there can be too much discomfort and that is not kind.

Thank you for helping me to think about this.

Thank you for sharing your reflections, Margot. It was a pleasure learning together with you. I know how much expertise you have built over so many years, in many different fields. It is a huge accomplishment, in that sense, that you show humility and that you are willing to step back from giving advice, and instead being open to see what wants to emerge from the group. Showing your true self is the most precious gift!

How will you remind yourself of trusting the process?
