Enlightened Dreams: Tomorrow's Society Through the Eyes of Pechakola's Children"
During a recent SALT activity in the Pechakola community, I was walking past Nakalia JM Government Primary School just as school was being dismissed. Children were pouring out of the gate, laughing, chatting, and playfully heading home. It was a joyful moment. I took the opportunity to engage with some of the children.
As I began a conversation with them, I asked for their names. One by one, they shared—Sumaiya, Tamanna, Arifa, Jesmin, and many more. Some were in third grade, some in fourth, and others in fifth. Following the SALT process, I asked them with great enthusiasm, “What do you want to become when you grow up?”
Their eyes lit up.
 One girl said, “I want to be a teacher. I want to gain knowledge and then teach others.”
 Another added, “I want to be a doctor so I can treat people in my community who can’t afford medical care.”
 A boy confidently said, “I want to be a lawyer.”
I gently asked, “What will you do as a lawyer?”
He responded with determination, “I will stand up against injustice and serve my community.”
They were small in age but vast in vision. Their dreams were not just personal ambitions—they were rooted in service and love for their community. In each word they spoke, there was hope, purpose, and a belief in something bigger than themselves.
Learning:
These children taught me a powerful lesson—that even at a young age, when children are given the chance to express themselves and dream freely, their aspirations naturally include the well-being of others. Their dreams are not shaped by greed or fame, but by a deep sense of responsibility.
A girl wants to become a teacher to educate others. A boy wants to become a lawyer to protect the rights of his people. A future doctor already envisions serving the poor. These are seeds of leadership, compassion, and transformation sown in young hearts.
Concern:
Yet, their journey toward these dreams may not be easy. Many of these children come from economically challenged families. Barriers like early marriage, gender bias, lack of guidance, or limited resources often pull them back. In many households, girls are not given equal encouragement to pursue education or personal goals. If these issues aren’t addressed, such bright dreams may be lost before they have a chance to bloom.

Action:
To nurture these dreams, we must begin at home and within the community. Parents need to be made aware that girls and boys both deserve equal support to pursue their ambitions. Schools, teachers, and community members should come forward to organize cultural, educational, and leadership programs that build confidence in children.
The SALT approach can continue to be a catalyst—initiating conversations with children, hearing their hopes, and amplifying their voices. Community-led initiatives like talent shows, storytelling events, and leadership training can play a huge role in giving these children platforms to grow.

Feelings:
As I spoke with these young dreamers, I felt overwhelmed with joy and inspiration. Their pure, honest answers reminded me of how important it is to listen to children. Though they are small, their dreams are large - and powerful. It gave me hope to think that one day these very children will become the teachers, doctors, lawyers, and change-makers of our society.
I felt proud to have had this conversation with them, to witness their confidence, and to see the early sparks of leadership and vision.
These children are not just the future - they are the present energy that can shape a brighter tomorrow. The children of Pechakola are ready. They just need us to believe in them, listen to them, and stand beside them as they walk toward their dreams—toward light.

আলোকিত স্বপ্ন: পেঁচাকোলার শিশুদের চোখে আগামীর সমাজ
পেঁচাকোলা কমিউনিটিতে সল্ট কার্যক্রম চলাকালে একদিন আমি নাকালিয়া জে.এম. সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের পাশ দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম। ঠিক তখনই স্কুল ছুটির ঘণ্টা বাজলো, আর শিশুরা হাসি-আনন্দে একে অপরের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে বলতে স্কুল থেকে বেরিয়ে আসছিল। সেই মুহূর্তে আমি কিছু শিশুর সঙ্গে কথা বলার সুযোগ পেলাম।
তাদের নাম জিজ্ঞেস করতেই একে একে সবাই বলতে লাগলো—সুমাইয়া, তামান্না, আরিফা, জেসমিনসহ আরও অনেকেই ছিল। কেউ তৃতীয় শ্রেণিতে পড়ে, কেউ চতুর্থ বা পঞ্চম শ্রেণিতে। আমি তাদের বললাম, “তোমরা বড় হয়ে কী হতে চাও?” সল্ট পদ্ধতির অনুপ্রেরণায় শিশুরা উৎসাহ নিয়ে তাদের স্বপ্ন ভাগ করে নিতে শুরু করল।
একজন বললো, “আমি বড় হয়ে শিক্ষিকা হতে চাই। আমি অনেক জ্ঞান অর্জন করে শিশুদের পড়াতে চাই।”
আরেকজন বললো, “আমি ডাক্তার হবো। আমি গরীব মানুষদের চিকিৎসা করব বিনামূল্যে।”
এক ছেলে বললো, “আমি আইনজীবী হতে চাই।” আমি তাকে জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, “তুমি আইনজীবী হয়ে কী করবে?” সে আত্মবিশ্বাস নিয়ে বলল, “আমি সমাজের অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে লড়ব, গরিব মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়াব।”

শিশুরা তখনও ছোট, কিন্তু তাদের স্বপ্ন আকাশ ছোঁয়ার মতো। তারা এক একটি মোমবাতির মতো, যারা তাদের আলো দিয়ে এই কমিউনিটিকে আলোকিত করতে চায়।

শেখা: এই শিশুদের চিন্তা-ভাবনা আমাদের শেখায় যে, ছোটবেলাতেই যদি সঠিক দিকনির্দেশনা ও উৎসাহ দেওয়া হয়, তাহলে তারাই একদিন সমাজের রূপকার হতে পারে। তাদের স্বপ্নগুলো কেবল ব্যক্তি উন্নয়নের জন্য নয়, বরং পুরো কমিউনিটির কল্যাণে নিবেদিত। একজন শিশু যখন বলে, “আমি ডাক্তার হয়ে গরিবদের সেবা করব”, তখন বোঝা যায় যে সমাজ পরিবর্তনের বীজ তার মনেই রয়েছে।
উদ্বেগ: তবে শিশুদের এই স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়ন করতে গেলে আমাদের সামনে কিছু চ্যালেঞ্জ রয়েছে। অনেক সময়ই দেখা যায়, এই বাচ্চাদের পরিবারের আর্থিক সীমাবদ্ধতা, বাল্যবিবাহ, ছেলেমেয়ে বিভাজনের মনোভাব ইত্যাদি তাদের শিক্ষাজীবন বাধাগ্রস্ত করে। কমিউনিটিতে এখনো অনেক অভিভাবক আছেন যারা ছেলেদের শিক্ষা দিতে আগ্রহী হলেও মেয়েদের বিষয়ে পিছিয়ে থাকেন। শিশুদের স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নের পথ তাই এখনো পুরোপুরি মসৃণ নয়।

করণীয়: এই শিশুদের স্বপ্নকে বাস্তবে রূপ দিতে হলে এখন থেকেই তাদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে হবে। অভিভাবকদের সচেতন করতে হবে যে, ছেলে-মেয়ে উভয়ের শিক্ষাই সমান গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। স্কুল, শিক্ষক এবং কমিউনিটির সক্রিয় সদস্যদের এগিয়ে এসে তাদের স্বপ্নকে লালন করতে হবে। স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সাংস্কৃতিক, শিক্ষামূলক ও নেতৃত্ব বিকাশমূলক কার্যক্রম বাড়াতে হবে।
ব্রেড-এর সল্ট পদ্ধতির আলোকে শিশুদের সঙ্গে নিয়মিত সংলাপ চালিয়ে যেতে হবে যেন তারা নিজের স্বপ্নগুলো নিয়ে কথা বলতে পারে এবং অনুপ্রাণিত বোধ করে।

• অনুভূতি: এই শিশুদের সঙ্গে সময় কাটিয়ে আমার মন ভরে উঠেছিল। তাদের মুখে এত স্পষ্ট এবং নির্ভীকভাবে স্বপ্নের কথা শুনে আমি অভিভূত। তারা যতই ছোট হোক না কেন, তাদের চোখে যেন এক বিশাল সমাজের বদলের ছবি আঁকা আছে। এই ছোট ছোট শিশুরাই একদিন নেতৃত্ব দেবে, অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে লড়বে, রোগীর সেবা করবে, অজ্ঞতাকে দূর করবে—এই আশায় বুক বাঁধা যায়।
  সেদিন বুঝেছিলাম, শিশুদের স্বপ্ন কেবল তাদের নয়, এটি আমাদের সবার ভবিষ্যৎ। তারা যদি আলো হয়ে জ্বলে উঠে, তাহলে পেঁচাকোলার প্রতিটি কোণও একদিন আলোয় ভরে উঠবে।
  এই গল্পটি সল্ট পদ্ধতির একটি জীবন্ত উদাহরণ। এই পদ্ধতি কেবল কথোপকথনের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়, এটি হচ্ছে—মনের ভেতরের শক্তিকে জাগিয়ে তোলার এক উপায়, যা শিশুদের মাঝেও তাদের নেতৃত্ব, স্বপ্ন এবং আত্মবিশ্বাস প্রকাশের সুযোগ করে দেয়।
