Maggie goes with the streams, all around

Maggie had a dream for Green and Happy islands in Maluku. She lived that dream.

She took her role in contributing small doable actions towards the dream very serious and that made her a great human being.

To a question what ‘animal’ she would be if she was an animal she responded: “A Fish! The ocean is big enough! I would be Nemo who goes with the streams all around, connecting continents”.

She saw her role in creating bridges between cultures: between her beloved Moluccan and Dutch family and friends in Holland with whom she spent half of her life  and with her family and green friends on the Moluccan islands, with whom she spent the other half. She was always looking at the best of her two beloved worlds.

Maggie was truly concerned with environment and looking for ways to live her message. Organising environmental friendly shopping bags for the ladies in her village is just one small example. Reintroducing the home-made coconut oil from the old days in her family, so that they did not have to buy plastic bottles with imported oil, is another.

With Constellation friends we spent intensive moments with Maggie still last February. Maggie, very reliable in her actions, was our language ànd cultural guide during our SALT visit and during the production of the documentary about Happy Green Islands on Saparua. Always there, always with her beautiful smile, and always with an honest concern to bring cultures, people and nature closer to each other.

Today Maggie’s family and friends, Maluku Competence and the Constellation lost a true SALT friend, a beautiful person. May our own actions and behaviour honour Maggie’s dream and example.

All my thoughts with Maggie's family,  Maluku Competence including you, Marlou!

Maggie's action will continue in many ways, I have no doubt.

Though I never met Maggie, her actions have filled me with energy. A beautiful tribute. Thank you Marlou.
