Warm greetings from Joyland Delinquency Prevention Project based in Uganda.
My name is Nyombi Joy, working with the above mentioned project based
in Uganda and am writing to you to share the following:
The Project is based in Mukungwe Sub-county Masaka District in Uganda.
The Project was established by criminologists and parents of childrenwho had got in conflict with the law so as to find a way of helping their children and other at risk children to stay away from drug abuseand crime in the community by engaging them in proactive programmes that help them to stay away from crime so as to live a happy and
meaningful life in crime free society. The Project started in 2013 and the idea was raised by a forensic criminologist who has a wide knowledge about juvenile justice, children's rights and cares for the
It is a small organization with determined and motivated people who
have a mission to give these at risk children knowledge and courage to
stay away from crime so as to achieve their the personal dreams.
This project engages in proactive programs that help juvenile to
avoid getting in conflict with the law, prevent violence which high in
our community because drugs, gangs, poor parenting among other
factors. For example; we have the Big Brothers Big sisters Program,
families and school together, Bullying prevention Program among others
and these program aims at preventing youth violence, criminal gangs
and behavior with focus at individual development of the youth. For that case the Project used moral support from the community to start the project so that the children and parents can be engaged in these programmes with the aim of arising crime free generation based on individual community awareness and promotion of human rights with emphasis on individual and communal responsibilities towards the children. The Project is called Joyland Delinquency Prevention Project. You can visit our Facebook page to know more about the project on www.facebook.com/joylanddelinquencypreventionproject
The Project has attained some achievements like reducing the high numbers of victimization and juvenile delinquency in the sub-county.
It is the only Juvenile delinquency prevention project in Uganda engaged in proactive programmes that prevent delinquency and victimization while promoting children's right. With the scarce resources, the project is able to hold workshops andseminars in schools and communities as well as it's the way we reachout to the children and parents.
The Project is working with some schools so to implement these programmes as away of continuing to reach out to the children and some of the schools include; Kaddugala Primary, Isaac Netwon High school, Fatih Islamic School, St. Michael Secondary School Butende, Makerere University, Nkumba University and communities like Butale LC 1 amongothers villages.
With such a network of working with different institutions and communities nationally, the project is looking for new partnership so as to achieve more and reach more at risk children in the community.
When I visited your website, I realized that we are sharing common goals and interests like education, human rights and health where by both of us; we try to see that at risk children and their communities achieve self sufficiency, crime free generation regardless of nationality. For that matter I would like us to work together through sharing knowledge, skills and experience so as to continue helping these at risk Children and their communities.
Please share your ideas and thoughts on how we could start working together and advise us on the steps to be taken. God bless you
