হরিজন জনগোষ্ঠী আটটি কাস্টে বিভক্ত। যার কারণে এক কাস্টের লোক অন্য কাস্টের ঘরে যাওয়া-আসা বা খাওয়া-দাওয়া করে না। হরিজন জনগোষ্ঠী যেমন সমাজের বাইরে থেকে বৈষম্যের শিকার হয়, তেমনি সমাজের ভিতরেও বৈষম্যের শিকার হতে হয়। হরিজন সমাজের এই ভিতরের বৈষম্য একেবারে সমাজের গভীরে প্রোথিত। নিজেদের ভিতরে বৈষম্য থাকার কারণে তারা এখনো পিছিয়ে রয়েছে। এই কারণেই জনগোষ্ঠীর অধিকার আদায় ও উন্নয়নে বাধাগ্রস্ত হতে হচ্ছে।

Arshirbad সংস্থা যখন SALT ও CLCP এপ্রোচ এ কাজ শুরু করে, তখন ফেসিলিটেটরের ক্ষেত্রে নানা চ্যালেঞ্জের সম্মুখীন হতে হয়েছিল। তবে এই প্রক্রিয়ায় অন্যরকম অভিজ্ঞতা ও ইতিবাচক ফলাফলও পাওয়া গেছে।

🌼 বন্না বাসফোরের জীবন ও সংগ্রাম

বন্না বাসফোর ময়মনসিংহ নতুনবাজার হরিজন কলোনিতে বসবাস করে। বন্না চার বোন ও এক ভাইয়ের পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করে। যখন বন্না তার মায়ের গর্ভে, তখনই তার বাবা মারা যান। জন্মের পর থেকে বন্না বাবার আদর পায়নি; মা ও ভাইয়ের ভালোবাসা ও যত্নেই সে বড় হয়েছে। তাই বন্না কখনো মা ও ভাইয়ের অবাধ্য হয়নি।

বন্নার তিন বোনের বিয়ে হয়ে গেছে। তারা বেশি পড়াশোনা করেনি, কিন্তু বন্নার ইচ্ছা ছিল পড়াশোনা করে একটি ভালো চাকরি করা ও মা ও ভাইয়ের পাশে দাঁড়ানো। বন্নার তৃতীয় বোন বিয়ের আগে একটি বইয়ের দোকানে ঝাড়ুমোছার কাজ করতো, বিনিময়ে সেখান থেকে বই এনে বন্নাকে পড়তে দিতো।

বোনের বিয়ের পর বন্নার পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যাওয়া কঠিন হয়ে পড়ে। তখন সে টিউশন করে নিজের পড়াশোনার খরচ চালায় এবং ইন্টারমিডিয়েট পাশ করে। বন্নার ইচ্ছা ছিল ডিগ্রিতে ভর্তি হওয়া।

🌻 বন্নার সাথে SALT কনভারশেশন

আমি যখন বন্নার সাথে SALT কনভারশেশন করি, তখন এই বিষয়গুলো মনোযোগ দিয়ে শুনি এবং বন্নার প্রশংসা করি। সত্যিই বন্না প্রশংসা পাওয়ার যোগ্য। তার বয়সি প্রায় সব মেয়ের বিয়ে হয়ে গেছে, সমাজের লোকেরা তাকে কটূক্তি করে, কিন্তু এসব উপেক্ষা করে বন্না নিজের লক্ষ্যে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে।

আমরা কমিউনিটি থেকে একজন মেয়ে ফেসিলিটেটর খুঁজছিলাম, আর বন্না কাজ খুঁজছিল পড়াশোনার খরচ চালাতে। তাই বন্নাকে ফেসিলিটেটর হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়। হরিজন পল্লীতে বন্নার সম্প্রদায়ের কোনো মেয়ে ডিগ্রি পাস করেনি। বন্না যদি ডিগ্রি পাস করে, তবে সে হবে একটি মডেল।

🌸 ফেসিলিটেটর হিসেবে বন্নার কাজ ও সামাজিক বাধা

ফেসিলিটেটর হিসেবে বন্না দারুণ কাজ করছিলো। বিশেষ করে কমিউনিটির মেয়েদের নানা বিষয় SALT কনভারশেশনের মাধ্যমে সামনে আসছিল, যা আগে আমাদের অজানা ছিল। তবে সমস্যা হচ্ছিল — বন্না বাসফোর সম্প্রদায়ের হওয়ায় অন্যান্য কাস্টের ঘরে সে ঢুকতে পারতো না। সবাই তাকে “নিচু জাতের মেয়ে” বলতো। এমনকি পঞ্চায়েতের লিডারও তাকে অন্য কাস্টের মেয়েদের সাথে কথা বলতে নিষেধ করতো।

🌿 কমিউনিটি ওরিয়েন্টেশন ও পরিবর্তনের সূচনা

এই পরিস্থিতিতে Arshirbad সংস্থা একটি ওরিয়েন্টেশন মিটিং আয়োজন করে। সেখানে সব কাস্টের লিডার, কমিউনিটির লোক, লোকাল কমিশনার ও স্টেকহোল্ডাররা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। সংস্থা SALT ও CLCP এপ্রোচ সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত তুলে ধরে এবং ব্যাখ্যা করে যে এই পদ্ধতির মাধ্যমে কমিউনিটি নিজেই নিজের ওনারশিপ নিতে শিখবে।

বন্নাসহ সকল ফেসিলিটেটর ও ডকুমেন্ট অফিসারদের পরিচয় করিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। এরপর থেকে বন্নার ঘরে যেতে আর কোনো বাধা থাকেনি। ধীরে ধীরে বন্না কমিউনিটির মেয়ে ও মহিলাদের প্রিয় ও আস্থার জায়গা হয়ে ওঠে। মানুষ তাকে বিশ্বাস করতে শুরু করে এবং নিজের মনের কথা শেয়ার করে।

🌼 পরিবর্তনের ছোঁয়া

SALT কনভারশেশনের ফলে হরিজন সমাজে প্রায় ৭% বৈষম্য কমে গেছে। বহু বছরের প্রচেষ্টার পর আশার আলো জ্বলতে শুরু করেছে। আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, সমাজের ভিতরের বৈষম্য শেষ হলে সমাজের বাইরের বৈষম্যও দূর হবে। SALT ও CLCP এপ্রোচই এই পরিবর্তনের কার্যকর পন্থা।

🌸 বন্নার সংগ্রাম ও সাফল্য

বন্না ভয়কে জয় করেছে। তবে সংসারের দায়িত্বে মা ও ভাই সবসময় তাকে চাপে রাখতো। পড়াশোনা, চাকরি ও ঘরের কাজের ভারে বন্না ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল। এর মধ্যেই আসে তার ডিগ্রি পরীক্ষা, তাই পড়াশোনায় মনোযোগ দেওয়ার জন্য তাকে কিছুদিনের জন্য কাজ থেকে অব্যাহতি দেওয়া হয়।

🌿 শিক্ষণীয় একটি ঘটনা

এই সময়ে কমিউনিটিতে বাইরে থেকে কিছু ভার্সিটি ছাত্র-ছাত্রী আসে ইয়ুথদের নিয়ে শারীরিক পরিবর্তন ও স্বাস্থ্য নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে। সেখানে বন্না উপস্থিত ছিল। তারা কমিউনিটির মেয়েদের ছবি তুলে ফেসবুকে দিয়ে লেখে— “হরিজন কমিউনিটির মেয়েদের প্রশিক্ষণ দেওয়া হয়েছে, তারা এখন কেয়ারগিভার।”

এটা দেখে বন্না অত্যন্ত বিব্রত ও বিরক্ত হয়। সে কমিউনিটির মেয়েদের নিয়ে পঞ্চায়েত লিডারের কাছে যায় এবং জানতে চায় এই বিষয়ে। লিডার বন্নার কাছে দুঃখ প্রকাশ করে।

যে বন্না কিছুদিন আগেও কারো ঘরে ঢুকতে পারতো না, সেই বন্নাই আজ পঞ্চায়েত লিডারের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে চোখে চোখ রেখে জবাব চাইছে।

🌻 SALT-এর ক্ষমতা

SALT কী করতে পারে বলুন? SALT শুধু মানুষের ভিতরের শক্তি বের করে না, তাকে শক্তিশালী ও ক্ষমতাশালী করে তোলে।

বন্না সেই শক্তির এক উজ্জ্বল উদাহরণ। সে ভার্সিটি ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ফোন করে জিজ্ঞাসা করে কেন তারা অনুমতি ছাড়া ছবি ও লেখা পোস্ট করেছে। তারা পরে কমিউনিটিতে এসে বন্নার কাছে ক্ষমা চায় এবং ছবি মুছে দেয়।

তারা অবাক হয়ে জানতে চায়— বন্না এত কিছু জানলো কিভাবে?
বন্না জানায়, সে Arshirbad সংস্থার সেফগার্ড পলিসি ট্রেনিং পেয়েছে।

ভার্সিটি ছাত্রছাত্রীরা ভেবেছিল— হরিজন মেয়েরা এসব জানে না। কিন্তু বন্না প্রমাণ করেছে জ্ঞান আর আত্মবিশ্বাস থাকলে কেউ অক্ষম নয়।

এখানে একটা বিষয় স্পষ্ট হয়েছে — শুধু সেফগার্ড পলিসি জানা নয়, এটাকে কার্যকর করতে মনের শক্তি লাগে। বন্নার সেই শক্তি ছিল কারণ সে SALT ও CLCP এপ্রোচ নিয়ে কাজ করেছে।

চাকরি না থাকলেও তার উৎসাহ, শক্তি ও মনোবল কখনো কমেনি। বন্না আজ শক্তিশালী ও ক্ষমতাবান একজন মেয়ে।

The Harijan community faces discrimination not only from outside society but also within their own social structure. This internal discrimination runs deep within their society.

Due to this internal division, the community continues to lag behind, which also hinders their struggle for rights and development.

When Arshirbad Organization began working through the SALT and CLCP approaches, the facilitators initially faced significant challenges. However, through this process, they gained unique experiences and unexpected results.

🌼 The Life and Struggles of Bonna Bashfor

Bonna Bashfor lives in the New Bazar Harijan Colony of Mymensingh. She has four sisters and one brother. When her mother was pregnant with her, Bonna’s father passed away. Since birth, she grew up without her father’s love. Her mother and brother raised her with great care and affection, and Bonna was always obedient to them.

Three of her sisters are married and did not study much. But Bonna had a dream — to study well, get a good job, and support her mother and brother. Before marriage, her third sister worked in a bookstore as a cleaner, from where she used to bring books for Bonna to study.

After her sister’s marriage, Bonna faced great difficulty continuing her education. She began giving tuitions to support her studies and eventually completed her Intermediate level. Her dream was to pursue a degree.

🌻 SALT Conversation with Bonna

When I had a SALT conversation with Bonna, I listened carefully to her story and praised her deeply. She truly deserved that praise. While most girls her age were already married, Bonna continued chasing her goal despite community mockery and harsh comments.

We were looking for a female facilitator from the community, and Bonna was looking for a job to continue her studies. Since she did not need to attend university classes regularly, we recruited her as a facilitator.

No girl from her community had ever completed a degree before. If Bonna succeeded, she would become a role model for others.

🌸 Bonna’s Role as a Facilitator and the Barriers She Faced

As a facilitator, Bonna performed exceptionally well. Through SALT conversations, many hidden issues among community women came to light — things we never knew before.

However, a serious problem persisted — since Bonna belonged to the Bashfor caste, she was not allowed to enter the homes of people from other castes. They called her a “low-caste girl.” Even the Panchayat leader used to prevent her from talking with women from other castes.

🌿 Orientation and the Beginning of Change

To address this issue, Arshirbad organized an orientation meeting where leaders from all castes, community members, the local commissioner, and other stakeholders were present.

The organization presented the SALT and CLCP approaches, explaining that these methods would help the community take ownership of its own development. Bonna, along with other facilitators and documentation officers, was introduced formally to everyone.

From that day forward, Bonna faced no obstacles in entering anyone’s home. She soon became loved and trusted by women and girls in the community. People began to confide in her freely.

🌼 The Touch of Change

As a result of the SALT conversations, caste-based discrimination in the Harijan community reduced by about 7%. After years of effort, a new light of hope began to shine.

We firmly believe that once internal discrimination ends, external discrimination will also fade away — and SALT and CLCP are the most effective paths to achieve that.

🌸 Bonna’s Ongoing Struggles

Bonna overcame her fears and kept moving forward. However, her mother and brother often pressured her to focus on household work. Balancing her studies, job, and family responsibilities made her exhausted.

Then came her degree examination, and to help her focus on her studies, Arshirbad granted her temporary leave from her job.

🌿 A Valuable Lesson from a New Incident

During that time, a group of university students visited the community to talk with youth about physical changes and health awareness. Bonna attended that session.

Later, the students uploaded photos of community girls on Facebook with the caption —
“Training has been given to Harijan girls; they are now caregivers.”

Seeing this, Bonna felt deeply embarrassed and angry. She, along with other community girls, went to the Panchayat leader to question this. The leader apologized to her.

It was a powerful moment — the same Bonna who once could not even enter others’ homes was now standing before the community leader, demanding answers with confidence and dignity.

What can SALT do? SALT not only brings out the inner strength of people — it transforms them into strong and empowered individuals.

Bonna is living proof of that. She called the university students and asked why they had posted photos and captions without permission. The students later came to the community, apologized to her, and deleted the photos.

They were surprised and asked how Bonna knew her rights so well. Bonna told them she had received Safeguard Policy Training from Arshirbad Organization.

The students were astonished — they thought Harijan girls had no such awareness or courage. But Bonna proved them wrong.

🌸 Strength, Courage, and the Future

This incident revealed an important truth — it is not enough just to know about policies; one also needs inner strength to act on them. Bonna had that strength because she worked through the SALT and CLCP approaches.

Even without a job, her enthusiasm, courage, and determination never faded. Today, Bonna stands as a strong and empowered young woman.

Through SALT and CLCP, Arshirbad Organization has helped Bonna overcome internal discrimination and awaken her inner power.
