Hello all!

I have recorded a podcast about SALT. It's intended to help as many people as possible to understand SALT. I'd be very grateful if you were to listen to it, and share it with others:

With warm wishes,
Jake

Dear Bobby and Jake, thank you for sharing this inspiring experience from Pune!

Podcast summary:

A company decides to start a woman’s helpline post a rape that created mass outrage and contacted Bobby Zachariah at Connecting NGO which runs a distress and suicide helpline.

As the discussion progressed towards the Corporate Social Responsibility activities run by the company, Bobby proposes SALT as an approach to cultivate community response.

Twice a month, volunteers from the company made SALT visits:  listening to people, looking for strengths, curtailing the temptation to give advices so that communities find their own answers for the neighbourhood.

Communities begin to act for change.  "We matter, and we have capacities that we did not know we had".  In the neighbourhood, people started to feel more confident in themselves.

A dream building session was organised with the neighborhood. They expected 20 people to come…a hundred people came... Since then, many changes have happened by advocacy by the youth, women and men of the neighborhood for better sanitation, quality education, etc. Now almost all dropouts are back to school. The company did its part, asking the community what they want to do and how, guiding them, telling them who they could contact, investing in activities decided by the community, investing money for a library, for example.

Having experienced the power of SALT, they now are trying to transfer this desire for change to 16 other communities. SALT visits are now organised two-three time a week, and the manager training module was expanded to include SALT.

According to Bobby, the sustainability of this process lies in SALT visits and investing CSR money in community agency building.
