As Women's Day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the world today, the women of Nandwal, known as 'Pratipandharpur' in Kolhapur district, have set a inspiring example. On the occasion of Women's Day, these women expressed their gratitude towards nature by watering the trees at the entrance of the village. These women showed awareness about public property and did their duty towards it.
Usually rallies, lectures or Haldi-Kumkum programs are organized on Women's Day. However, the women of Nandwal broke this tradition and considered 'tree preservation' as the real celebration.Interestingly, all these women firstly completed there house and farm work. After these all hard work they are enthusiastic for watering trees.
The trees planted on both sides of the road leading to Nandwal village were getting scorched by the sun. Realizing this, the women watered each tree with buckets and jugs.
From this activity women from nandwal conveyed the message of how important it is to save trees.
"We celebrate Women's Day every year, but this year we wanted to do something real for society and nature. We have made this small effort in the spirit that only if the trees survive, the next generation will be safe." — Women from Nandwal.
These women from Nandwal have shown that empowerment is not only about demanding rights, but also about fulfilling the responsibility of one's locality effectively and it also proves that if there is people's participation, it does not take time to develop a village.
