I am a last wicket but need some more Runs - A Granny

Dear Forum,

The HIV/AIDS pandemic in India is making the children and aged more vulnerable with middle generation succumbing to AIDS. Hence this has a long-term impact on national and state economic scenario. The current challenge for the nation is “Orphaning” of the children where the 55% grannies are taking care of them. The emotional bond between the grannies and grand children is making them mutually dependent and supportive.

My experience at the knowledge Fair (IKF) Chiang Mai, Thailand

I am so glad that I was able to make it to the International knowledge Fair (IKF) because it was a great eye opener for me. I used to think that I care for the community I work with. Here I learnt that I need to care for humanity. Though at intellectual level I am aware of it, I understand I need to go long way to be into it. The IKF gave me a firsthand experience to witness it in reality and to be a part of that experience.

Red shirts prevent gay pride from taking place in Chiang Mai.

This was supposed to be the opening speech for the Chiang Mai gay pride march that was canceled by force by so called Red Shirt supporters of the ousted and exiled Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra .

I won a battle

6 February 2009…Chiangmai…third and final day of the Knowledge Fair. In the first two days, I had thoroughly enjoyed the exchanges with teams from different countries of the world.

Unconditional giving

It happened few months ago at Theni District of Tamil Nadu, India. A woman infected and in the last stages was admitted in a hospital here. One lady was affected with HIV/ AIDS since 1999 from her husband. She is living in Svay Rieng province in Cambodia, close to the Vietnam border. She did not know about her status until 2002 and than she divorced her husband. Emergency funds raised by sex workers themselves helps in consistent condom use and reduction in vulnerability

The sex workers in Periyackulam district, Tamil Nadu say "Sex without condoms: those days are gone!". 8 years ago it was observed that though women in sex work were aware about the use of condoms to prevent STIs and HIV they were exposed to infections.
