Dear Forum,
The HIV/AIDS pandemic in India is making the children and aged more vulnerable with middle generation succumbing to AIDS. Hence this has a long-term impact on national and state economic scenario. The current challenge for the nation is “Orphaning” of the children where the 55% grannies are taking care of them. The emotional bond between the grannies and grand children is making them mutually dependent and supportive.
Herewith i am adding the few of the voices…

Sun, sea, sand, hospitable people, a tourist's paradise...That's only part of the story. The other part is of a region uncomfortable with open discussion on sexuality. This has made grasping HIV by the throat, rather difficult. A highly conservative region with a proliferation of religions, this Region bears the excesses permissible at Carnival time but is uncomfortable with discussion on the right to quality health care of its soi-disant hidden populations - sex workers, men who have sex with…

I am so glad that I was able to make it to the International knowledge Fair (IKF) because it was a great eye opener for me. I used to think that I care for the community I work with. Here I learnt that I need to care for humanity. Though at intellectual level I am aware of it, I understand I need to go long way to be into it. The IKF gave me a firsthand experience to witness it in reality and to be a part of that experience.
When I reflect on my bonding with my community I see many…

This was supposed to be the opening speech for the Chiang Mai gay pride march that was canceled by force by so called Red Shirt supporters of the ousted and exiled Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra .
The confrontation does not bode well for QGBLT rights in Thailand or the supposed rule of law as dozens of police stood by and did nothing as the gay community were intimidated by the thugs who prevented the peaceful march of community solidarity to take… Continue

Dear Forum
HIV is not a health problem it is one of the major social problems. It is creating the more social disturbance in the children and their families. I am working for 5 years with HIV/AIDS affected and Infected children. I observed so many case studies of the children in HIV/AIDS sector.
Due to AIDS, children become Orphans. It is estimated that more than 20 million children, bellow 18 years have been orphaned as result of AIDS. This number is increasing day by day…

I have never come across (so far) across any religion or sect and its relationship with homosexuals, bisexuals and the transgendered etc till I chanced upon a website of GALVA (
The Gay & Lesbian Vaishnava Association, Inc). The website provides "information and support to GLBTI Vaishnavas and Hindus" [The Vaishnavas are a sect of Hinduism]
The GALVA website says, "This website is provided by the Gay and Lesbian Vaishnava Association, an…

Two years ago, my friend named David came to me and he said that he wanted to go to HIV test. On that time I asked him why he wanted to do that? He is gay and has a boyfriend – but often having sex with other boys out there without condom. Firstly, I told him to think positively and I gave him a booklet about HIV and AIDS. I asked him to read it carefully and after that we would discuss it. A week after, I was invited some friends who are HIV positive to gave testimony to David. Finally, David…

I just come back from Chiang Mai Center for the Arts. There, a few hundred meters from the airport, is a wonderful piece of land. Old wooden houses remind me of my house in Phayao. The special light of Northern Thai winter shines between the trees. I am there at the invitation by L
aurence: I am joining her meditation group. As a special treat, Ajarn Pramual will tell his story. A philosophy professor at the University of…

6 February 2009…Chiangmai…third and final day of the Knowledge Fair. In the first two days, I had thoroughly enjoyed the exchanges with teams from different countries of the world.
Then began the third day with a jolt of shock. Some of my newly formed friends were not what I had thought they were. They were casually sharing their sexual orientation, they were gay/ transgender and I was getting confused, and growing uncomfortable by the minute. I am from India where discussing…

It happened few months ago at Theni District of Tamil Nadu, India. A woman infected and in the last stages was admitted in a hospital here. The members of the association formed by women sex workers took turns to look after the ailing woman. They brought in freshly cooked food for her, fed her and cleaned her up. They sat with her in turns to cheer her up. They asked the woman's daughter, a young girl who lived in another district, to come and see her mother. The girl came in the morning and…

Whole night it rain heavily, I thought the early morning flight would be cancelled or postponed. We had a schedule to meet both the SALT teams at Pontianak and Singkawang. I heard about the teams there, excited to meet, saw Novi (already a friend) and Chandra at ning. I heard the teams are having problems, they are stuck …I did not know, not sure about what it was. Now that with the rain I was thinking how it will turn up.
We arrived Pontianak, a sunny morning; the city was glowing with…

Title: The world is not only me
One lady was affected with HIV/ AIDS since 1999 from her husband. She is living in Svay Rieng province in Cambodia, close to the Vietnam border. She did not know about her status until 2002 and than she divorced her husband. Our Volunteers tried to persuade her to access health services and provide assistance several times but she was rejecting because of stigma and discrimination within her community even her children were not allowed to play with…

The sex workers in Periyackulam district, Tamil Nadu say "Sex without condoms: those days are gone!". 8 years ago it was observed that though women in sex work were aware about the use of condoms to prevent STIs and HIV they were exposed to infections. When the Siaap, team discussed in detail certain facts emerged such as emergencies in the family, ill health, debts and arrest by police caused financial crisis. In order to solve the crisis they had to raise more money so they gave-in to demands…

I'm posting this to the members of Ning and in particular to those who attended the Fair in Chiang Mai last week. It was a great opportunity to meet and talk with all the participants at the Fair, meet old friends and make some new ones. My apologies for missing the first day of site visits but I did make time over the weekend to meet with the staff from Violet Home separately so that was useful for me..
From my own personal perspective I would like to get a sense of what the key…
