Dear Members of this Forum,

Greetings!

I'm sharing with you my recent article as published on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2019. The article is based on this year's theme i.e. "Communities Makes the Difference". Herein, I have highlighted how effectively communities are responding to AIDS pandemic across the continents and in India as well.

In India, communities by themselves are able to resolute their Human Rights issues where intervening communities like Transgender (TG), Men having Sex with Men (MSM), Female Sex Workers (FSWs) and Intra-venous Drug Users (IDUs) as well as bridge populations both are now keeping them updated on various laws protecting in the event of any happening or crises. For example; i) Supreme Court of India’s judgment (of April 2015) pertaining to the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA) vs. Union of India wherein transgender were declared as “Third Gender” which affirmed that fundamental rights granted under the constitution of India equally applicable on the transgender and gave them the right to self-identification of gender as male, female or third gender. ii) decriminalization of Section 377 (in August 2017) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) which was introduced in 1861 during British Rule of India.

It has been realized across the continents that involvement community and community-led organizations are the most cost-effective approach. It's boon in resource-constraint settings to prevent HIV transmission.

Communities need to be supported than ever before from every means.

Kindly have a look at my attached article but this time it's in Hindi language.

Best.
