My knowledge and community affection

My present activities

The report is a summary of activities carried out by ten peer educators Lead by Peeters of Vision In Action Foundation team for the month of June and July 2010. We worked for nine weeks and participated in two group works at the Muea and soppo Market and also took part in a special event that was the international day of the African Woman 31 July 2010 at the youth and Animation Center Buea, south region Cameroon. Being our second month of fieldwork, we realize there is a positive change in the field. Some of the materials we used during this period include; Female condoms samples flyers, protective flyers, ten bags, ten t-shirts, ten artificial virginal, ten caps and stickers.

The field work is done by educating the community through discussion and demonstration, organized in session coordinated by peer educator. Some of the methods include;
 Individual (1 to 1)
 Organizing group talks and demonstrations above two persons (restricted)
 Distribution of educative materials like sample flyers
 Creation of sales points
 sales of female condom
 Follow up of sales points created
During this period, educational talks which were focus on the correct and systematic use of female condoms aided with the demonstration on how to put on female condoms on artificial virginals, negotiation skills and the advantage of female condoms not living out distribution of flyers in the community.
In other to create an impact in the field, we having working in pairs to ensure the flow of information to the public. For the past four weeks, we have carried out 212 individual education talks, 240 restricted educational talks and 00 enlarge making a total of 457 educational talks carried out with 4314 persons sensitize (827 women and 616 men). We visited 84 sales point and created 47 and so far we have sold 11 cartoons and 37 units (1137 units) of female condoms.

 Some people in the communities still have negative attitude towards condoms in general and wrong perception about female condoms
 People insist on having the female condoms for free since it is a new product in the market
 There is increase in participation from the communities
 People who don’t know the advantage of female condoms always criticize.
 Since it’s a new product in some communities, people demand it should be given for free
 Difficult in working during this season because of heavy rain fall
 Insufficient promoting materials
1. Sensitizations should be extended to semi urban and rural communities
2. Umbrellas and rain coat are needed to ease work during this season
3. More educational materials should be given to peer educators like sample protectiv flyers, stickers, and additional T-shirt for peer educators
Given the improvement of the recommendations and observation, and equally coupled with the fact that we are all experienced with community now, we are very sure of attaining the trimester Objectives and even more. Above all creating positive impact in the community and a sure guarantee that the female condom will be the best option in the community for birth control in the municipality of Buea.
