আমি সম্প্রতি আশীর্বাদ অর্গানাইজেশন-এ যোগ দিয়েছি। যোগদানের পর থেকে প্রায়ই আমার হরিজন কমিউনিটিতে যেতে হয়। ছোট বেলা থেকেই আমি ময়মনসিংহে বড় হয়েছি। সেই সময়, যখন রিকশায় শহর ঘুরতাম বা কোন কাজের জন্য বের হই, প্রায়ই নতুনবাজার হরিজন পল্লী পাশ দিয়ে যেতাম। বিশেষ করে উৎসবের সময় পুরো কমিউনিটি লাইট দিয়ে সুন্দরভাবে সাজানো থাকত। তখন ভাবতাম, যদি আমি ভিতরে যেতে পারতাম। কিন্তু তখন আমি সেখানে কাউকে চিনতাম না।

অনেক বছর পর, সেই আশা শেষমেষ পূরণ হলো। শুধু তাই নয়, আমি তাদের সাথে SALT (Support, Appreciate, Learn, Transfer) কনভারসেশন করার সুযোগও পেয়েছি। এটি আমার জন্য সত্যিই আনন্দের। আমি একজন আদিবাসী কমিউনিটির মানুষ, আমি গারো কমিউনিটির। সবসময় দেখেছি আমার গ্রামের পরিবেশগুলো খুবই বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ, যেখানে সবাই একে অপরের বাড়িতে যায়, গল্প করে, বন্ধুত্বপূর্ন  সময় কাটায়। বিশেষ  করে আমরা মেয়েরা দলবদ্ধ হয়ে গল্প করি ও নির্ভয়ে চলাফেরা করি। বিভিন্ন উৎসবে সবাই অনুষ্ঠান আচার পালন করে এবং আমাদের উৎসব ও সংস্কৃতি উদযাপন করে।হরিজন কমিউনিটিতে আমি আমার কমিউনিটির সাথে অনেক মিল পেয়েছি, বিশেষ করে সবাই যেভাবে মিলেমিশে বসবাস এবং যোগাযোগ করে। এটি শহরের প্রাণকেন্দ্রে অবস্থিত। সাধারণত শহরে সবাই ব্যস্ত থাকে, প্রয়োজন ছাড়া একে অপরের বাড়িতে যায় না এবং বেশি মানুষকে চেনে না। বিশেষ করে প্রতিবেশী কেউ কাউকে চেনে না। কিন্তু এই কমিউনিটিতে তা ভিন্ন।যদিও ঘরগুলো গ্রামের প্রথাগত পদ্ধতিতে তৈরি নয়, মানুষের মন, মনের সৌহার্দ্য এবং বন্ধুত্ব ঠিক গ্রামের মানুষের মতোই। সব শহুরে ব্যস্ততা এবং যান্ত্রিকতার মাঝেও মধ্যেও যেন একটি ছোট্ট বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ পরিবেশ রয়ে গেছে। সময় বদলেছে ঘড়বাড়ি পরিবেশ বদলেছে কিন্তুু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে মানুষের  মন ভাবের আদান প্রদান, একে অপরের প্রতি টান ভালবাসা যেন গ্রামের সেই প্রচলিত রীতির মতই যা এখনও এই কমিউনিটিতে দেখা যায়। যা নতুন প্রজন্মদেরকে  একতাবদ্ধ হয়ে বাস করার মনোভাবকে আরও দৃঢ় করবে।

I recently joined the Ashirbad Organization. Since joining, I often need to visit the Harijan community. I grew up in Mymensingh from a young age. Back then, whenever I traveled around the city in a rickshaw or went out for some work, I would often pass by the Nutunbazar Harijan Colony. Especially during festivals, the whole community used to be beautifully decorated with lights. At that time, I wished I could go inside. But back then, I didn’t know anyone there.

After many years, that wish finally came true. Not only that, I also had the opportunity to hold SALT (Support, Appreciate, Learn, Transfer) conversations with them. This has truly been a joyful experience for me.

I belong to an Indigenous community myself  the Garo community. I have always seen how friendly the environment is in my village, where people visit each other’s homes, talk, and spend quality time together. Especially we girls gather in groups, share stories, and move around freely. During different festivals, everyone participates in rituals and celebrates our traditions and culture.

In the Harijan community, I found many similarities with my own community, especially in the way everyone lives and communicates together. This community is located in the heart of the city. Usually in the city, people are busy, they don’t visit each other’s homes unless necessary, and they don’t know many people. Neighbors especially don’t know each other. But here, it’s different.

Although the houses are not built in the traditional style of villages, the hearts of the people, their warmth, and their friendships are just like those of village life. Amid all the city’s busyness and mechanical routines, this community preserves a small, friendly environment. Times have changed, houses and surroundings have changed, but in some ways, the exchange of thoughts and feelings, the bonds of love and connection remain like the age-old traditions of villages  still alive in this community. This will further strengthen the mindset of the new generation to live together in unity.
